Grace was born on December 19, 1920 in Sturgeon Creek, Manitoba to Clara and John Mavor. She had a happy and adventurous childhood, attended Bannatyne School, and graduated from St. James Collegiate. After working for the Manitoba Telephone System, Grace married Charles Platts on January 21, 1946. After the death of Charles, she was employed by James Richardson and Sons for a number of years. Grace married Dr. Randy Murray on December 27, 1979. After Randy's retirement, Grace and he spent a year at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, traveled extensively, and enjoyed summers spent with family and friends at the cottage on Little Duck Island. She spent many years volunteering for a number of organizations including the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and was also actively involved, along with Randy, in Rotary International. Grace possessed an indomitable spirit and was an entertaining and generous hostess. She had a wide range of friends in Winnipeg and in many other parts of the world. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Unit 4 South at the Victoria General Hospital for their compassionate and respectful care of Grace. Thanks also to the many friends, especially Jack and Elaine Sine, who provided support to allow her to live independently in her own home up until her recent admission to hospital. The family invites friends to join in a celebration of Grace's life to be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
