MYRTLE L. MCCREARY On Monday, November 28, 2011 Myrtle was granted her angel wings. Described as one-of-a-kind, all who met her came away feeling they had met a special person. Born to Robert and Sarah Brakefield in 1917 at Venn, Saskatchewan, at age nine she and her siblings lost their mother. As the eldest girl, she became the caregiver until her father remarried. In 1935 she married Howard Mighton and moved to Jansen where they raised their family. Possessing a strong sense of duty, she was active in community organizations where she touched many lives. She was always learning, taking skating lessons in her 50s, completing high school and the Municipal Administrators Course by correspondence, while her youngest was graduating high school. She later became Mayor of Jansen, and was mentioned in an issue of Chatelaine Magazine as one of Canada's female mayors. Howard passed after a lengthy illness but she regained her joy in life when she met Mansel McCreary who convinced her they were young enough to marry again in 1989. He passed suddenly later that year. She then moved from Jansen to Melville to be nearer family and when her health became a concern, she moved to Winnipeg where she stated she had the happiest years of her life. She leaves to celebrate her life, daughter Betty (Alfred) Breitkreuz of Yorkton, son Ken Mighton of Quill Lake, daughter Barb (Dan) Deurbrouck of Winnipeg, nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, sister Helen Kane, brother Donald Brakefield, and many dear friends and relatives in Western Canada.
