ANNE REMPEL (nee GERBRANDT) Peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2011, Anne Rempel (nee Gerbrandt) was welcomed into the arms of her Saviour at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by her family. Anne will be dearly missed by her loving husband Brian, daughter Cara, mother Mary Gerbrandt, brother Albert Gerbrandt (Maureen), sister Kathy Barkman (Lyle), brother Henry Gerbrandt, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She is predeceased by her father George Gerbrandt, and mother-in-law Ramona Rempel. Annie Ruth was born on July 27, 1953 at the old Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. After high school she attended Nipawin Bible Institute in Saskatchewan, and graduated as an RN from Grace Hospital. These skills along with an inquisitive nature and strong faith in God enabled and empowered her to live a vibrant life throughout her six bouts with cancer which spanned 21 years. These qualities have been an inspiration and an example to everyone around her. As a young adult Anne organized numerous mission trips to Europe and South America, being sure to make some time for sight seeing. She married Brian Rempel, August 1986 making this past August their 25th anniversary. Their beautiful daughter Cara was born March 15, 1990, completing their family. They enjoyed many family trips together, including five volunteer MCC projects. They ran their bakery, Stone Ground Daily Bread for 15 years while also managing a small, home based business educating people about health and nutrition (Shaklee) since 1988. For the past three years Anne found great joy in her job caring for seniors. Her nursing skills and compassion impacted others and she was equally blessed by their love in return. Anne spent just over five weeks in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital remaining ever hopeful and faithful. Although Anne's journey was difficult, many memories were made and love increased. We, as a family, affirm that Anne can say with complete certainty, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7. We would like to give thanks to all for the prayers and support, as well as to the wonderful Palliative Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Finding Freedom (info@findingfreedom.ca), or Compassion Canada (www.compassion.ca). Viewing will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m on Sunday, January 1, 2012 as well as prior to the funeral service. Both viewings and the funeral service will be held at Assiniboia-Charleswood Community Church, 760 Charleswood Road. The funeral service will be on January 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Victoria Cemetery in Balmoral, MB at 4:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was friends with the Gerbrandt family in my growing up years but marriage to an American took me to the US and I lost contact. Now that I look at her picture, she is as I remember her. Always smiling. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in the loss of a special friend and loved one. - Posted by: Arlene (Thiessen) Manes (friend of Gerbrandt family) on: Jan 02, 2012

  • Nelly and I got to know Anne at the C&C. group in Steinbach. She was a committed Christian young lady, which was evident in the Bible studies at C&C. Nelly and I will remember Anne having a zest for life. Brian and Cara, may the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, comfort your hearts today. - Posted by: Ken & Nelly Reimer (friend) on: Jan 02, 2012

  • Anne and I got to know each other years ago when we both worked in Steinbach, and we kept in contact for years after. She was a faithful loyal friend, and always cheerful. She spoke with much love about Brian and her precious Cara. I remember the good times we had and am sorry to hear that she has finally succumbed to her cancer. May God be with you as a family, but especially with Brian and Cara, as you mourn her passing, and may your many memories bring you comfort. - Posted by: Leona (Siemens) Schmidt (friend) on: Dec 30, 2011
