Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY EDIGER (nee ENNS) May 22, 1920 - January 4, 2012 Mom passed away peacefully on the afternoon of January 4 at the Riverview Personal Care Home at the age of 91. She is survived by her children David Ediger (Barbara), Dianne Patten (David); her grandchildren Sean, Mark, Dawn, Megan, Ian and Jaremy, and great-grandchildren Ethan, Jason, Tia and Lily; her sister Frieda Potempa and brother Jeep Enns and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack in 2006 and by brother Charlie and sisters Anne and Anita. Mary was born in Artjomowsk, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with her parents in 1926. After brief stays in and out of Winnipeg, the Enns family settled on McKay Avenue in North Kildonan. Mary was baptized in the Mennonite church in June, 1939. After her marriage to Jack in 1946 they both devoted much time and energy to First Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School and organized music programs. Mary was also the tireless assistant to Jack in his role as church treasurer for 37 years. Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and Oma to whom family was everything. Family dinners with the Enns sisters were filled with loud voices and laughter. Mom's platz and meat buns were legendary to her grandkids, some of whom still try to match Oma's recipes. Mom and Dad were always careful to make sure that all of their family members were equally loved and cared for. Mom's love of family was almost equaled by her love of music. She taught violin to beginners in her home for many years and one of her proudest achievements was attaining her certificate as an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. She was also active in the University of Manitoba Orchestra and the Mennonite Community Orchestra. A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will take place at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., on Tuesday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Mary's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
