ARTHUR BARKMAN REMPEL Arthur Barkman Rempel passed away peacefully on January 19, 2012 at the age of 91 at Bethesda Place in Steinbach. Art is survived by his wife of 67 years, Leona and their children James (Cindy Driver) of Brooklyn, NY and Margaret (John Wiebe) of Steinbach and his very special grandchildren Brett Daley (Amanda) of Steinbach and Meredith Hutchinson (Scott) of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his sister Romelda (Ed Schellenberg), brothers Lorne and Leander (Louise) and many nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Elizabeth Rempel, brothers Edwin, Peter and Edmar and sister Alvina Loewen. Art and his brother Edmar were owners of Steinbach Mills until 1991 when the downtown Steinbach landmark was demolished. The family wants to thank Home Care workers Rhonda, Sheila and Peter for their wonderful care of Art while he was at home. Another big thank you to the staff from Willow Way at Bethesda Place for treating our dad with such dignity and showing such care in the few months he was there. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards Chaplain Larry Hirst, who has been such a strong support for Art and his family in the past five years. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 23 at Grace Mennonite Church, 430 Third St., Steinbach. Viewing will be prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made to The Bethesda Foundation, Chaplaincy Fund, 316 Henry St., Steinbach, MB R5G 0P9 or Mennonite Central Committee Relief Projects in Africa. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
