OLIVE OLGA PETERSON May 30, 1914 - January 11, 2012 in Winnipeg Ollie was the eldest child of George and Anna Prystanski and grew up in the Point Douglas area. She left school after Grade 6 so that she could help support the family. She did so through domestic work until she was 20 or so and then found work in various sewing factories in the exchange area. She maintained employment in the garment trade until her retirement in 1980. Ollie was a long time member of the Rebekahs (St. James 47) and enjoyed her many meetings and visits on behalf of their Sick Visiting Committee. She had to give up her work with them in 2003 due to ill health. If you knew her you'll know she was always sweet, cheerful, lively and fun. She was always ready to dance (even with her walker!), and she knew many naughty songs that would come out at inopportune times. She loved family parties when she could get tipsy-wipsy on her half glass of wine. She always shared what she had on her plate with the family dogs who all adored her. At age 97 she had outlived most of her generation and all of her siblings: Joe Prystanski, John Peterson, and Rose Collins. She remained very close to Rose's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the end. Ogo will be sadly missed by Dianne and Barry McLaren, Andrea, Ivan and Megan Wong, Kathy McLaren and Macy McAvoy; Dawne and James Kepron, Chris and Emma Kepron, Charis and Ross Baker, Zoe, Dan, Jack and Alexander Reimer; Jim Collins and Kyle, Kaiden and Tea Collins. At her request there will not be a funeral. A private family gathering has already taken place. If you would like to remember Ollie; do a kindness for a friend, make a stranger smile or donate some time or money where it will do the most good. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the caring staff at the Rosewood who all made her last three years so happy, comfortable and safe, and to the medical staff at Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care in the last eight days of her life.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • OLGA TAUGHT ME TO LOVE THE INNER CHILD WITHIN YOURSELF. SHE CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD WITH MUCH TRUTH AND HUMOUR THAT WOULD PUT ANY DISCONTENTED PERSON TO SHAME. SHE MADE ME LAUGH AND THINK AND LOVE MY WORK. SHE TAUGHT ME THAT ATTITUDE IS A CHOICE NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND THAT "IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE TO MAKE THE WORLD GO AROUND" WAS A GOOD THING TO SAY WHEN YOU DISAGREED WITH SOMEONE. WHAT A HAPPY PERSON SHE WAS AS SHE LOVED AND ACCEPTED UNCONDITIONALLY...AND NEVER MARRIED AS A PATH TO FIND AND GIVE LOVE. WHAT AN EXAMPLE OF A LIFE WELL LIVED AND JOY UNSPEAKABLE. HEAVEN'S A GAIN NOW! - Posted by: Judy Wollf (FORMER CARE GIVER AT rOSEWOOD) on: Jan 24, 2012
