JERRY KRUK Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Concordia Hospital, Jerry Kruk, beloved husband of Ruth. Jerry is survived by his wife Ruth of 48 years, daughter Maryann Driver and her children Alexa, Devon, Noah and Luke and daughter Carolyn Henrick and her children Claire and William. Also left to cherish his memory is his only brother Walter and wife Yvonne Mudlo and their daughter Donna Lagace and her family. Jerry was born on April 3, 1940 and grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. He was educated at the University of Manitoba obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960 and an MBA in Finance in 1976. He was employed by Greater Winnipeg Gas Company in 1962 until his retirement as Vice President of Operations in 1991. During that same year he became President of CAA Manitoba. He always said working there was like planning a holiday, everyday. He retired in 2004 after 13 years. At a young age Jerry's passion was playing hockey. His minor hockey began with the North Winnipeg Excelsiors. From there Jerry went on to play with the St. Boniface Canadians with whom he was property of the NHL Montreal Canadiens. During that time, he was picked up by the Winnipeg Braves and went on to win the Memorial Cup in 1959. Jerry was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame as a member of this award winning team. As a result of graduating from university and finishing junior hockey in the same year, Jerry proceeded to play with the St. Paul Saints of the IHL. After two years, he chose to concentrate on his engineering and business careers in which he excelled. Jerry continued playing oldtimer hockey until his illness no longer allowed him. Jerry was a natural athlete and his interest in sports continued in golf as a member and past chairman of Elmhurst Golf Country Club. Jerry combined his love of hockey and his business acumen as a board member and chairman of Winnipeg Enterprise Corporation, board member of the former Winnipeg Jets and Vice President of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame. As a sports enthusiast, he was a long time season ticket holder and supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Manitoba Moose and both the former and current Winnipeg Jets. In 1980, he was honored to be a part of the Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conference where he acted as group chairman. Jerry's participation in this led to the creation of the Governor General's Canadian Study Conference in 1984. Jerry gave his time and effort generously to the community. His call to serve on various committees, councils and boards is a testament to the value and scope of influence as perceived by the world around him. Jerry has served for over 35 years on both the Misericordia Hospital and Misericordia Corporation and the Holy Family Home Boards. His interest in the health care field resulted in board memberships with the Catholic Health Association, Manitoba Blue Cross and numerous positions with Manitoba Health Organizations. Jerry's competitive nature and work ethic provided a lifetime of achievements that will leave a legacy in Winnipeg and beyond. His caring, giving nature will be missed but a treasure of memories will live on always. Jerry will be remembered as a leader and mentor, a dedicated professional, and a loving caring family man. Even in retirement his busy schedule allowed him to participate in numerous hours of Public Utilitiy Board hearings and enjoy spending time with his friends at their Mafia lunches. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. with His Grace Most Rev. Lawrence Huculak, OSBM and Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family wishes to thank N3 East at Concordia Hospital, Dr. D. Johnson, Dr. Ted St. Goddard and his palliative care team and everyone at CancerCare Manitoba for their loving care and compassion. Those wishing to make a donation in his name can do so to CancerCare Manitoba, Holy Family Home, or Misericordia Health Centre Foundation. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

Our Prayers and thoughts are with the Kruk family . Jerry was a special person. His passion for life and family was an inspiration to all he came into contact with. Jerry's enthusiastic personalty was always front and centre and he always told it like it was with integrity and honesty. We got to know Jerry through our tine together at Misericordia and also golfing. Jerry would always start a conversation with a smile and then ask, "How is your family?" We will miss Jerry, however, his positive approach to life will be with all of us forever. It is an honour to be a friend. - Posted by: Ron & Cyndee Hill (friend) on: Jan 27, 2012

Deepest condolences to the Kruk family. A great guy, great Winnipeg booster and true North Ender. First met Jerry when we lived down the street on Redwood and walked to Strathcona School Hockey Rink to play city playground hockey league. Over the years our paths crossed on occasion when he was with GWG and MAA as well as playing a few rounds of golf or evening courses in the MBA program. Always a gentleman and first class guy. He will be duly missed by many.....Henry Goy - Posted by: Henry Goy (Friend) on: Jan 26, 2012

What a blessing to have had the opportunity to get to know a person like Jerry. After graduste school I got to know Jerry thru the Manitoba Health Organization and what a super guy he was. But the act of kindness that we will never forget is this: When he was with the Greater Wpg Gas Co. they distributed Genie dolls as a promotion gimic. Some of you may remember them. Since I was 10 yrs older than Jerry we had a couple of young children and they happened to see one of these dolls. However the promotion had expired and they were no longer available. What to do? Ask Jerry of course. He took the time and made the effort to resue one from the deep cellar of GWG and found one. Yes it needed cleaning but we talk about this doll to this day and you made our kids so happy. Thank you Jerry for your kindness and God comfort the family at this time of life. - Posted by: Jake Suderman (Fellow board member and friend) on: Jan 26, 2012

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, Jerry was a great man and a great leader and mentor. Knowing Jerry, you had the pleasure to also know Ruth and their love for their family. It was an honour to work with Jerry from 1994 when I started with "the motor league" to 2004 when he retired from "CAA Manitoba". His mentoring in my transition from sales to management has been of life-long value to me. I always admired his leadership, attentive to every employee by name and respectful of every position and contribution. His integrity to always do the "right" thing. He was the kind of boss that didn't just make you want to be a better at your job, he made you want to be a better person. - Posted by: Amy (Harden) Losics (colleague and friend at CAA) on: Jan 26, 2012

Dear Ruth, Carolyn & Maryann, our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Working with Jerry at Greater Winnipeg Gas back in the 1960's, none of us knew where life would take us. But even then, Jerry as a young man had the talent and personality to succeed - and he did, farther than any of us would have dared to guess in those days. The world will be a lesser place without his strong handshake and welcoming smile. May he rest in peace. Connie and Brian - Posted by: Brian & Connie Hampton (Business associate) on: Jan 26, 2012

When I worked at CAA many years ago, Jerry was our President & our “go to” guy for concert & event tickets. Nobody, would ask Jerry for tickets (“you can’t ask the president” I was told) Going to see Jerry in his upstairs corner office was like going to see the Wizard of Oz. Scared of the unknown, and his commanding loud voice. One day, I mustered up the nerve. Not only did Jerry get me amazing tickets but I discovered how nice & kind he truly was (nothing like the wizard). If you understood his sense of humor, you had a friend for life! Running into Jerry years later at a Wal-Mart he still recognized me & I couldn’t help but hug him. Thank you so much Jerry for giving us your time & generosity, you gave me 2 sets of memories. The tickets gave us one set & you gave us the other from knowing you. You may be gone in body, but not in our memories. Sincere condolences to your family & friends. - Posted by: Shelley Zilkie () on: Jan 25, 2012
