HILDA (ADELE) FRIEDRICH (nee FARTACZEK) September 24, 1927 - January 20, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, with her family by her side, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Hilda is survived by her loving and devoted husband Frank (Franz), of 63 years; her children, Rositha (Rheal), Frank (Elizabeth), Helen (Garry) and Betty (Marcel); her grandchildren, Tera, Janessa (Paul), Kyle and Kirstin; her great-grandchildren Tiernan, Autumn, Katheryn, Arianna, Julian, Joey, Logan and Vadah; her stepsisters, Hedwig (Eugen), Inge (Franz-Josef), Traudl (Michael), and stepbrother Ernst, and sister-in-law Dori. Hilda was born in Augustendorf, Romania and was predeceased by her mother Rosalia Hebler, father Ernst Fartaczek, stepmother Hilde, stepbrothers Horst, Eddy, and step-niece Ingrid. She met her husband Franz in Austria and married in 1948. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 and started a new life in Winnipeg. They faced many challenges learning a new language and a different way of life. Mom will be remembered for her sweet and gentle spirit. She was loving and kind, a wonderful cook, baker and gardener. She had a sense of humour, was generous, graceful, respectful and never complaining or finding fault with others. Mom was a fabulous homemaker, she was resourceful and a determined woman who worked hard to create a family and home she was proud of. She was extremely accomplished and creative at sewing, quilting, knitting and made truly beautiful things. Our greatest gifts from Mom are the one's she made with her hands and from the love in her heart. She loved helping people and rescuing animals. She was a warm and loving woman and passionately devoted to her family. We were always greeted with a big smile and hug. Her greatest joy was making family dinners and spending time with her family. Mom and Dad travelled to many places including Germany, where she happily reconnected with her family. Despite the progression of her illness, she displayed amazing physical strength and courage and lifted the spirits of those around her with her gentle, caring smile. She will be remembered for her smile, her hugs, her laugh, a friendly hello to everyone and an I love you . Thank-you Mom for all the warm memories of happy times shared, for always making us feel loved and special and for being the caring mother you have always been. Thank-you for all your thoughtful ways, the nice things you did, your understanding, your lending hand and for teaching us patience, and what true love and courage really are. God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. So He closed His arms around you and whispered Come to me . You didn't deserve what you went through, so He gave you rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. And when we saw you sleeping so peaceful and free from pain, we could not wish you back to suffer that again. A private family service will be held at Green Acres. Flowers are gratefully declined. Anyone wishing to honour our mother, wife and grandmother can make a donation to the Parkinson's Society. The family wishes to thank the staff at River Park Gardens for their care of our Mom for the past three and one half years.
