Henry (Fred) was born in Winnipeg in 1917 where he lived until the family moved to Moosehorn, Manitoba in 1921. During the Second World War, he served in the RCA third division, Fifteen Field Regiment of the Canadian Army. He was wounded in the Battle of the Falaise Gap two months after the D-Day landings in August 1944 and he spent the rest of the war in Army hospitals, where he made medical history. He returned to Canada on a hospital ship and spent a good deal of time in Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg after the war recuperating from his injuries. He eventually came to work at Deer Lodge Hospital and retired from Deer Lodge in 1978 after many years of devoted and dedicated service. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Duke of Kent Branch in Winnipeg, where he served in many functions. He spent many happy, fun hours at the branch before it was closed. He later became a member of the Fort Garry Legion. He spent his last few years comfortably at Thorvaldson Care Center. Fred was always a charmer and quite a flirt. He will be missed.
