EMILIO D'ABRAMO September 17, 1914 - March 5, 2012 It is with sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Emilio D'Abramo announces his passing on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the age of 97 years at Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Nearly six months ago exactly, Emilio lost his wife Maria, and his only wish since then has been to be reunited with her in heaven. Remaining to forever cherish Emilio's memory are his son Luigi (Maria) D'Abramo; daughter Angela (Tony) Petrillo; son Nick (Terry-Lynne) D'Abramo; daughter Teresa (Tony) Lamorte; grandchildren, Gino, Emily (Franco), Marianne (Rick), Emily (Brent), Tony, Carinna (Marco), Nicole, Michael, Maria (Nick), Christina; great-grandchildren, Luciana (Christopher), Robbie, Joey, Christopher, Brandon, Jesse, Nicholas and Luca and great-great-grandchild Anthony. Emilio was born in Campochiaro Italy and came to Canada alone in 1952 to begin forming a new life for his young family. In 1953, Maria his wife and children joined him. Together they worked to build their life here, first working at the Royal Alexandria Hotel, and then at the Fort Garry Hotel as a chef and eventually owning their own grocery store on Osborne Street. Emilio was an incredibly proud man with his values rooted and intertwined amongst his family and his Italian heritage. He was most happy when we were all gathered together at his home sharing food, laughter and family time. Emilio appreciated hard work, and worked alongside his sons until he was 80 years old! He also enjoyed wine making and cultivating a large garden each year and sharing the fruits of his labour with the entire family. He loved evenings playing scopa' and telling stories of the old country. Emilio was the centre of our family. He was wise, strong and supportive of all of us in his own unique way. He showed his love daily in many ways beyond just hugs but also through the twinkle in his eye and his smile. Emilio was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He taught us all the importance of family, and of needing and helping one another with the journey of life. The family wishes to thank the many staff and caregivers at Calvary Place for their care and compassion over the past two years. Prayers will be held Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Avenue. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment to follow at Holy Angel Mausoleum in Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Emilio's grandchildren. For those who wish an alternate to flowers, donations in Emilio's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Emilio, Papa, Nonno, we will love you forever

  • The best times in my life were being part of your family. You treated me as one of your own, always there for me. Your love, humour, laughter and your never ending sign-off with "sum-of-a-bitch-a" will remain with me forever. I learned alot from you and your family that is, (everything except how to speak Italian), but most of all respect. You were, as was the 'Mrs.", good to me and now that you'll soon be with her, my memories are my treasures. I will love you both forever ... until we meet again, Lay-own. xoxo - Posted by: Leona Butchart (friend forever) on: Mar 12, 2012
