I met Peter and his surviving crew in 2001 at East Kirkby airfield, Pete was a gentleman and a very brave man spawned from a generation we will never see the likes of again. I remember that all he wanted to do at the end of the day was eat fish and chips! RIP Pete. - Posted by: David Cheetham (Friend) on: Jul 22, 2015

I'm so sad to hear the Mr Wilby passed away. I worked with Peter in the 1970s and early 80s at the Department of Education and remember him fondly. He was soft spoken - a very kind hearted man - My best to his wonderful family and friends!!! Sandy Drummond - Posted by: Sandra Drummond (nee Hogue) (was his Secretary) on: Mar 27, 2012

Peter was a friend of my Parents - Edward (Ted) & Lucy Speake. My Dad worked at the Kinsman School on Notre Dane Avenue. My late Sister (Sandra) & I enjoyed the fundraising Strawberry teas the Wilbys had in their riverside back garden every summer. I was a flight attendant with TCA durung that time and on my days off would volunteer with the activities with the school. Happy Memories. Our Deepest Sympathy to all his family, Peter was a very nice person. Dawn (Speake) Nerbas & Family - Posted by: Dawn (Speake) Nerbas (Old Family Friends) on: Mar 26, 2012

PETER WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BUDDIES WHEN WE BOTH WORKED IN THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. IN SOME WAYS HE WAS ONE OF MY HEROES, SOMEONE WHO DID A GREAT JOB AT HANDLING HIS WORK RESPONSIBILITIES AS WELL AS HIS PERSONAL LIFE, NEVER COMPLAINED IN PLAYING THE HAND WHICH WAS DEALT TO HIM, CARRYING ON WITH A WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOUR. HE ALSO DESERVES TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE WWII. WITH MANY FOND REMEMBRANCES - HAROLD MCCORT - Posted by: HAROLD MCCORT (FRIEND) on: Mar 24, 2012

Mr. Wilby was always kind to my brother Garry and I, and was a good friend to our dad Bill Thomas, and our uncle Art Thomas. I recall Pete telling a story of one particular mission during the war when in heavy flak his Lancaster got upside down at night over Berlin. We can only imagine what he and his mates went through in the war. Garry and I lost track of Mr. Wilby for a few years but recently learned he was in the Riverview care home. We visited him just before Christmas. Pete was very appreciative of the visit and smiled when I showed him a picture of a Lancaster that was in Winnipeg this past summer. He commented it was a good airplane and always brought him home. Garry and I will remember Pete fondly, and offer our condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Wayne Thomas (Family Friend. ) on: Mar 22, 2012
