Date of Passing: Mar 23, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTANLEY NORMAN WICK July 29, 1924 - March 23, 2012 After a brief illness, Stan passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Health Sciences Centre. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Madge, his son Brian, his daughter Linda Penner (Dale), and his grandchildren Jordan and Brianna. He is survived by his brother Ed (Doreen), and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Steep Rock, Manitoba after his parents Karl Martin and Elsie Marie Wick immigrated from Vistiraalen, Norway in 1915. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Ingrid Trippier and brother Mel. The family moved to Winchester Street in St. James near the Assiniboine Golf Course where Dad's love of golf started. They then moved to a farm in Petersfield when Dad was 14 where his love of nature and the outdoors was born. Dad had many hobbies such as bird watching, photography, sketching, cycling, golf and always looked forward to a game of cards. In fact, he met Mom at a weekly game of whist. From 1938 to 1943 Dad worked for various farmers herding cattle, milking cows and on threshing gangs pitching sheaves, which he said was the hardest work he ever did. In 1943 Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was posted in Souris at the #17 Service Flying Training School. Unfortunately, due to severe air sickness, Dad could not join the air crew as planned and was trained as a hospital orderly. After the war, Dad attended The Winnipeg School of Art and made his trade as a lithographer in the printing business with Pollard Banknote being his last career move before he retired in 1989. Dad enjoyed 22 fun filled years of retirement with family and friends and his remarkable health during this time was a marvel and an inspiration to us all! Dad's constant smile and hearty laugh will be missed but his happy go lucky spirit will always be with us. The family would like to thank Dr. Tim Hiebert and the nursing staff of G4A at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and constant support. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at Friends Funeral Home at 2146 Main Street on Wednesday, March 28 at 11:30 a.m. A private family interment will take place later at Dunara Cemetery. Should friends wish to do so, they may make a donation to a charity of their choice.

I recall the times I spent in my youth with Uncle Stan and remember a kind, thoughtful and compassionate man. A joyful laugh not to be forgotten. I regret I was unable to attend his service today, but remember him and his family in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Ronald Karlsen (Nephew) on: Mar 28, 2012

Uncle Stan was always interested in what you had to say, loved to hear about your job and what your children were up too. He was a wonderful artist and photographer. I remember as a little kid he was always sneaking up and snapping your picture. He was a quiet guy who loved nature and his family. I will remember his laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I'll sure miss you Uncle Stanley!! - Posted by: Penny & Dave Murray (Niece) on: Mar 26, 2012

I will always remember Uncle Stan as my Uncle with the camera. If he went anywhere he always had it with him. I enjoyed looking at the pictures that he took. It didnt matter what they were of, flowers, places or people, he always took great pictures. Uncle Stan was always the soft spoken man who would ask you things and really listen to you. I loved to see him when we visited and enjoyed hearing of what things he had been doing since we last met. I will miss him very much. Until we meet again. With much love Teri - Posted by: Teri Walker (niece) on: Mar 26, 2012
