TATIANA HOLOWCZYNSKYJ Peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Holy Family Nursing Home, Tania passed away at the age of 88. She is survived by her children, Roman; Irene and husband Dane Wilson, and their children Mark and Alanna; Ihor and his wife Danielle, and their children Stephanie and Maxym. She was predeceased by her husband Sviatoslav, her parents Ihnat and Olga Makaruk and Aunt Helen Danczak. Tania was born January 14, 1924 in Kovel, Western Ukraine. She, like so many others, was forced to flee her home leaving behind family and friends due to the ravages of the Second World War. In a refugee camp in Austria she met and married her husband and had her first child there. In 1952 they went to start a new life in Canada. After arriving in Winnipeg they quickly became immersed in the emigre community. A daughter was born soon after and then another son. In the ensuing years Tania maintained family order in a whirlwind of concerts, church events and summer camps. Although life was never easy for Tania she ensured that the joyous times were well celebrated. Singing was one of her great joys in life. She belonged to many choirs over the years but her favourite was singing in the church choir. For Tania there was no better way to celebrate her deep faith than to sing Mass. Tania worked for many years, retiring in 1986, at the Georgian Room at The Bay. There she made many friends and lots of good times and some sad were shared with the girls' from The Bay. Throughout the many challenges that life posed Tania overcame all of them by relying on her unshakable faith in God. She was always thankful for what she had and there was no prouder home owner than she. As proud as she was of her humble home nothing gave her more joy than her grandchildren - each a jewel in her eye. A visit to Baba's house was sure to include special treats, a new game invented and finally a nest of blankets and pillows for the tired kids to snooze in. Many thanks to all her dear friends who managed to find the time to visit her in the nursing home. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, health care aides and all other staff at Holy Family Nursing Home who provided such wonderful care. You are all true angels of mercy. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Volodymyr and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. presided by Rev. Msgr. M. Boyachok. A reception will follow and then interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave. in memory of Tania.
