DUDLEY (DOUG) FRANCIS COPPOCK Doug Coppock passed away peacefully on April 2, 2012, at the Victoria Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughter Judy and son-in-law Gary (Hedge), several nieces and nephews in Manitoba, BC and Ontario, and his sister-in-law Jean Coppock. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Gene in 1993, his parents Fred and Ruby, his brothers John and Ed, and his sister Audrey. He was also predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Mae Hutchins and Vi Cranston. Doug was born on May 7, 1919 and spent his early years in Transcona, before the family moved to Winnipeg after a tragic fire burned the family home. Following High School Doug was employed in the accounting field and in 1942 he began a successful 38 year career with Uniroyal (formerly Dominion Rubber). It was while working at Dominion Rubber that he met Gene (nee Sargent), his wife of 49 years. After their marriage, they resided in East Kildonan where their daughter Judy was born. In 1953, Doug and Gene began building their beloved cottage at Nutimik Lake. It was here that they would spend many memorable and happy times with neighbours and friends. After retirement, Doug and Gene spent the summers at their cottage and enjoyed several winters in Florida prior to Gene's illness. After Gene passed away Doug remained in their home in East Kildonan, spending many happy hours tending to his gardens at the lake and in the city and lending a helping hand to relatives and friends. Doug moved to The Boulton in 2006 where he formed new friendships. At Doug's request, a private graveside service has been held. Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, in Doug's memory, donations to CancerCare, Manitoba or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. A. Jowett, Dr. R. Kroeker, and the nursing staff in the 4 south ward of the Victoria Hospital, for their excellent care and compassion.
