Date of Passing: Apr 02, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIVY PETERSON (nee THOMPSON) With sad hearts, the family of Ivy Peterson announces her passing on Monday April 2, 2012 at the Victoria Hospital at age 92. Memories of Ma will be forever cherished by her daughter, Diane Tweedy, her sons, Allan (Leigh-Anne) and Stanley (Pat). Her five grandsons and spouses and seven great-grandchildren were very special to Ivy. Also left to mourn are sisters-in-law, Bertha, Dot and Pauline, nieces and nephews and their extended families. For most of her life Ivy called Alexander Avenue home , starting at 1543 with her parents and five siblings, and after marriage to Henry, 1308 was home until age 90. Mom moved into Sterling House in 2010. She made many good friends and loved her Wednesday and Friday Bingo nights there. Family was very important to Ivy. Ivy was close to her four brothers and sister, all whom predeceased her, as well as her sister -in-law Elsie (trips to Las Vegas) and son-in-law Doug. There were many happy times at 1308 and the cottage at Big Whiteshell. Ivy was always sports minded, beginning with her baseball days, stock car racing and bowling. Later in life she found a passion for golf and played well into her 80s, often with her sister Daisy, who affectionately called her I . She loved to watch curling and golf on TV. Games were a big part of Ivy's life. Card games, bingo, darts, slots and video poker at the casino, picking the win, place and show at Assiniboia Downs, and TV game shows made her eyes light up! Even the day before she left us, she was sitting by a sunny window doing the crossword and Jumble. Mom was thoughtful, fair, honest and kind. She has left us with a legacy of love and a treasure trove of amazing memories (just like her diary!) Holding onto her hand as she slipped away, we were grateful she had a long full life, a good life and as was her wish, a life that ended quickly. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd, 933 Summerside Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
