LEA GUENETTE Peacefully, on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Taché Centre, Léa Guénette passed away at the age of 93. Léa was predeceased by her loving husband Charles (Ti-Pit); infant son, Gérard; and brother, Albert. She leaves to mourn three daughters and their families: Pauline (John), Jacqueline, Joanne, John Daniel and Jeannine; Lorraine (Gordon), Geneviève and Alexandra; Louise (Karl) and Joel; and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by siblings: Thérèse, Lucille, Marcel, Evelyn, Ernest, Doris and numerous nieces and nephews. Léa was born in Ste. Elisabeth, Manitoba in 1918 to Alfred Rivard and Alida Sarrasin. Léa and Albert lost their mother at a young age. Their grandmother, Delphine Rivard, nurtured them for some time until their father remarried. At the age of 12, Léa became a boarder and a student at St. Joseph's Academy in St. Boniface. She married Charles Guénette - the love of her life - January 18, 1941, residing in St. Boniface while raising their daughters. Léa was a loving wife and mother and a wonderful cook. Léa was employed at St. Boniface Hospital, eventually becoming a supervisor in Central Supply. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Festival du Voyageur and the Red Cross. Charles and Léa took numerous trips to eastern and western Canada with their travel trailer, enjoying many happy hours on the road. They travelled on bus tours and also spent one winter in Mesa, Arizona. The family wishes to thank the staff on 3ABC at Taché Centre for their kindness and compassion in caring for our mother. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Amant Foundation or Taché Centre. A funeral service for Léa will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Hwy. 1 East at Navin Road. Private family interment will take place.
