STANLEY MICHALSKI It is with great sadness that the family of Stan Michalski announces his passing on April 12, 2012 at St Boniface Hospital with family by his side. Stan was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Olga (Ollie) Michalski and his parents Emily and Michael Michalski. Left to cherish his memory are his children Barbara Lechman and Donald (Kim) Michalski; granddaughters Rebecca and Ginny Lechman and Melissa and Kyla Michalski; sisters Edna (Chester) Golis and Irene Ryan; nephews and nieces Linda (Ken) Yerema, Wendy (Pierre) Ryan, Michael (Michelle) Ryan, Greg (Georgia) Kowtun, Cal (Susan) Kowtun, Allyson (Blair) Bashaw, as well as many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Stan was born in Winnipeg in 1918 and grew up in Transcona. After finishing high school, Stan went to work at the Transcona CN rail yards as a machinist for 41 years before retiring. Stan was a devoted husband and was married to his wife Ollie for almost 60 years before her passing in 2007. Always a favourite with his family members, Stan was the original godfather as evidenced by the large number of godchildren he had. Long before DIY become the rage, Stan could be found in his basement workshop inventing a contraption to make life easier or taking apart some sort of electrical device to learn how it worked. In summer months Stan spent many hours tending to his garden and his vegetable plot. In the winter he spent time endlessly perfecting and tweaking his cookie recipe. Grandchildren could always count on receiving a gold coin (loonie) for ice cream. Stan remained independent and active well into his 90's. The family would like to thank Stan's caregivers and companions, especially Mila and the girls, for providing extra care in the last years of his life, the staff on the 2nd floor of the Winnipeg Convalescent Home and the paramedics and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I always admired Stan's quiet ways, but also respected the conviction in anything he expressed. He loved his family very much and I enjoyed seeing him at family functions. I have fond memories of a contented Stan around Christmastime, donning perfectly pressed pants, shiny vintage wingtips and the calm demeanor that can only come after a lifetime of hard work, happiness and love. You will be missed. - Posted by: Jeff Schellenberg (Friend of family) on: Apr 17, 2012
