MONIQUE ATTWOOD (nee BLANCHET) Peacefully, after a long illness, with family by her side, we announce with sadness that Monique Attwood passed away at the Women's Hospital on Sunday, April 15, 2012. Monique leaves to mourn her beloved family, husband Peter, daughters Sara Stouffer (Ben) and Jennifer. She is also survived by brothers Denis and Robert Blanchet; sister-in-law Sue Thomson (Alan) and nephew James; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Monique was predeceased by her parents Rodolphe (Rudy H.) and Bernadette (Bernice) Blanchet, and her parents-in-law Freddie and Edna Attwood. Monique was born in Winnipeg on December 4, 1954 and spent most of her life in Winnipeg. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science (Microbiology). She was employed by the Federal Government (Health Canada and Canada Revenue Agency) and retired in 2010. Monique loved to travel. In 1977, while visiting Europe she met a young Englishman in Rome who soon became her fellow traveller and best friend. Peter and Monique were married September 9, 1978. In time, they were joined by two daughters, Sara and Jennifer. Monique's first priority was family and she cherished time spent with them. She took great interest in her girls' day-to-day activities, and always had time for a chat and a cup of tea. The family made many happy vacation memories, from camping trips at Clear Lake, cross-Canada drives, and trips to Europe, Mexico, and Hawaii. Later in life, Peter and Monique discovered the joys of cruising. Monique also enjoyed time with her extended family and looked forward to their frequent lunches and brunches. She was also fortunate in having some very caring friends. Monique was passionate about books and enjoyed sharing her love of reading with friends and through several book clubs. She believed it was never too late to try new things and in later years discovered a variety of new interests, golf, opera, yoga, while continuing to enjoy former pastimes, walking, baking, and needlework. Diagnosed with cancer in November 2009, she continued to maintain as active a life as possible, savouring every moment. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, with viewing at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road with Fr. Fred Olds officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Peter, Sara, and Jennifer would like to thank family as well as many caring friends who showed her so much love, support and kindnesses during her illness. We would also like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba especially Doctors Dean and Lotocki, dietician Gina Sutherland, and social worker Katherine Gottzmann. In addition we would like to thank Marianna, Kerry and Deborah and the entire nursing and support staff on the 5th floor, Women's Hospital for providing outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Monique's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to The Winnipeg Public Library. Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality. - Emily Dickinson Condolences may be sent to www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
