ANNA HELEN KOROL (nee HUK) Anna Helen Korol, aged 88, passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 29, 2012. Born in Poltava, Ukraine, on October 15, 1923, to Konstantin and Vavara Huk, the family was forced to relocated to Lviv, Western Ukraine, during the time of the Great Ukrainian Famine or Holodomor of 1932 to 1933. She lived and attended high school in Lviv until the outbreak of the Second World War. In September of 1945, she met and married her future husband, Roman Korol, in Munich, Germany. Halyna (Helen) with her husband and two year old son Oleh, immigrated to Canada and arrived in Winnipeg on January 6, 1949. She became a parishioner of Sts. Volodymyr and Olga Cathedral and remained a faithful member for over 60 years. Throughout her entire life, Halyna was a member of various religious, social and volunteer groups. She belonged to Zoloti Vorota and the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. Halyna loved to sing very, very much. It was her passion. She sang with Ollie Hawryliuk's church choir for over 18 years and was a valued member of the O.Koshetz Choir. Halyna was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Roman, in 2001; her brother, Vlodko and her sister, Lida. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Oleh Korol and his wife Vera (Toronto, Ontario), Dr. George Korol (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Dr. Adrian Korol and his wife Beth (Los Angeles, California); grandson, Dallas; granddaughters, Clarissa, Alexa, Trinity and Raiya; her sister-in-law, Luba Huk and her daughters, Tanya and Arussia and their families of Winnipeg. It is always a good thing to end with a happy ending. Halyna was extremely fortunate and happy to have made new and unbreakable friendships in her twilight years with her friend Myroslav Roslytsky and his sister Olia Kruk, along with their children Petrusia and Sonya with their families. We would like to thank you for all the love you gave and the generous hospitality you have given our mother over all these years. You made her remaining years the happiest ones of her life. Thank you so much. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 (tonight) at Sts. Volodymyr and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 3, also at the Cathedral with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of the nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, especially Jennifer Osachuk who was extremely compassionate and helpful during Anna's last hours. Thank you very much for all your love and care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Taras Shevchenko Foundation or to PLAST (Ukrainian Canadian Youth Association).
