KATHERINE KAZINA (nee YASCHESHYN) 1917 - 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Katherine Kazina, on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Beausejour Hospital. Mom is survived by her children Henry Kazina (Lorraine), Eleanor Strick (Lorne), Peter Kazina, Verna Rumak, Alfred Kazina and William Kazina; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Dasko (William) and Violet Kerde and sister-in-law Lorraine Yascheshyn as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Stanley, father John Yascheshyn, mother Regina Yascheshyn (Wazny), brothers John, Frank and Casey and sisters Jean Sawicki and Emily Jackson. Mom was born in Melrose, MB on November 16, 1917. She married Peter Kazina in 1938. They acquired a parcel of land in Tyndall, MB and raised a family of seven children. She lived on the farm until poor health required her to move to her second home at East Gate Lodge in Beausejour, MB in March, 2005. In spite of many difficult times during her lifetime, Mom lived a full and productive life. She enjoyed the company of family and friends. Family was extremely important to her. Her home was always the focal point for family gatherings at Christmas, Easter and other special occasions. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their occasional visits brought her much happiness. Mom was a very kind, caring and compassionate woman. She was a person of deep faith who could always discern the goodness in others. She lived her life with utmost grace and dignity. Her strong work ethic and perseverance were shining examples to all of us. She enjoyed singing, listening to old time and western music, playing cards, playing bingo at the Garson Community Centre, gardening, picking berries and mushrooms and even travelling whenever she could. Her baking, cooking and canning skills were second to none. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 28 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Garson, MB. Interment will follow in Tyndall Cemetery. Prayers will be sung on Sunday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Nicholas VanRensburg, Cindee Bialek, and all the wonderful staff at East Gate Lodge for their compassionate care. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, c/o North Eastman Health Association, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
