KENNETH GEORGE CHRISP Peacefully on June 4, 2012, at St. Boniface Hospital, Ken passed away at the age of 67 years. Ken is survived by daughters Darrell (Erv) and Michelle (Eddsel). He also leaves behind grandchildren Madeline, Kieran and Lena. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sally in March 2001. Ken was a respected and loyal employee of the City of Winnipeg for over 30 years. He retired in 1996 as Principal Clerk of the Water and Waste Department. In October 1970, Ken married his wife Sally and together they raised their two daughters. Throughout his lifetime Ken had wide array of interests, some of which included archery, hunting, woodworking, coin and stamp collecting, painting and learning to play the guitar, clarinet and saxophone. He was a nature enthusiast and found solace in taking long walks in forests or along beaches. Ken and Sally kept an extensive beach glass collection that serves as memories of time spent together strolling along the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Our family vacations to Blue Lake, Ontario remain the highlight of our childhood years. His most recent passion was golfing, a sport that Ken continued to perfect with every passing season. He had an innate drive to do everything well. While helping his daughters with home renovations, Ken could often be heard saying, measure twice, cut once . He approached every task with method and fastidious precision. One of Ken's most endearing and treasured qualities was his genuine understanding and care for his friends and loved ones. He most often expressed his care through acts of kindness such as shoveling his neighbour's walk, helping to build a friend's deck, assisting another with cottage maintenance, and the list goes on. Ken had a gift for lending an empathetic ear to family and friends and was a pillar of strength for so many of us. He had a broad knowledge of many things. We would frequently look to Ken to share his wisdom, whether for a broken faucet or a parenting challenge (concerning grandchildren). Ken was a model example of human adaptation to the adversity of life. Following the death of Sally, Ken rose to the challenge of fending for himself and he faced each day with courage and perseverance. His zest for life returned with time and he once again found himself thriving. Ken used humour as a coping mechanism and imparted his silly nature to all of us. He was an unceasing gentleman and navigated life with grace and dignity up to and including his last moments. Lois, you and your family have been dear to Dad and an integral part of his journey. Your companionship and love for Dad were important in all of our hearts and we thank you. Dad, we are so fortunate to have had you. Together you and Mom have paved our lives with love, stability and friendship. These are your legacies that we hope to pass onto our children. We would like to thank the caring staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Ward. Kim and Gert, you were outstanding. According to Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
