IVAN (JOHN) CIAPUTA Peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2012 Ivan (John) Ciaputa, cherished husband of the late Maria Ciaputa and beloved father of Sviatoslav (Chiharu Matsunaga) and Olga (Pierre Beauchamp) passed away. Born in Halychyna, Ukraine on October 24, 1915, he immigrated to Canada from England in 1952 with Maria and one-year old Olga. Ivan was very active in the Ukrainian community, being a long time member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, and former holova (president) of the Ukrainian Youth Association and the Canadian Ukrainian Institute "Prosvita". Working with youth was a passion of his and he served as a mentor to many over the years. Among his numerous endeavours, Ivan was manager of North Winnipeg Co-operative, and ran his own business for many years as a storekeeper and butcher. He retired from Eatons, where he worked as a butcher, in 1980. He was also an avid hobby farmer, horse lover and beekeeper. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 8 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. He will be forever loved and missed. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for their tender care and support.
