Born: Feb 06, 1929
Date of Passing: Jul 25, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJULIAN LOUIS (LOUIE, LOU) LECHMAN February 6, 1929 - July 25, 2012 It is with the deepest sorrow and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our dearest father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Louie Lechman at the age of 83, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Debbie Regier, Darlene Scibak, Darrell Lechman, and Derek Lechman (Jackie); his grandchildren: Jason Regier (Jennifer), Jennifer Regier, Justin Regier, Jamin Regier, Jordan Regier, Candace Carnevale (Ben), Charlie Scibak, and Georgia Lechman; his great-grandchildren: Didier Dusablon, Gabriel Dusablon, Kiefer Regier and Katherine Regier; his sisters: Ollie Luchik, Eleanor Freeman and Dorothy MacDonald, and many, many nieces, nephews and friends. Louie was the third youngest of ten children and grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. He never left it except to spend summers at his favourite place in the world, Winnipeg Beach. His children and grandchildren were always first in his life. He never missed a family get together and looked forward to the next one. He was a positive person always seeing the best in everyone and was willing to help everyone any way he could. Lou retired many years ago after working 34 years as a Letter Carrier. While working for Canada Post he was active in the union, holding positions from Secretary to President of the Local. Working for the betterment of others was what Lou strived to do. After his retirement he became more active in his church until health issues forced him to step down from some of his responsibilities. Lou was an active NHL and CFL enthusiast, sharing many momentous sports moments with his son(s) and grandson(s). He was the best father a son or daughter could have, having lost his wife to cancer in 1975. Lou was there for his children and his grandchildren. He actively took part in their lives, celebrating their accomplishments and encouraging them during times of hardship. He never gave up on any one of them and was proud of them all, from the oldest child to the youngest great-grandchild. A celebration of Louie's life will be held at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Private interment will take place at a later date. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks Hospital.

Dad was always there. Throughout elementary school he would come to the library in the evenings and ask how he could help me with my homework. I had him draw pictures or charts from reference books. We learned to read Ukrainian together. When I was left with five children, Dad was there for all 6 of us. You needed a ride or a babysitter, Dad was the man to go to. You had a problem, you could talk to Dad. He was a great listener. He didn't have all the answers and he was the first to admit it, but you would feel much better. From my first hospital stay when I was 5 to my last surgery, Dad was there. From my first child being born to my last grandchild's birth, Dad was there rejoicing with us. He was there through thick and thin, for the long haul. When I was about 18 and going through a rough patch he said to me "Debbie, life is tough, no one said it was going to be easy, but you cannot give up, the harder you try, the harder it gets, but never ever give up". I haven't Dad. But to put this into perspective, if the World had a landmass of 10,000 square miles, Dad occupied 5,000 of them. July 25, 2012, my world got a whole lot smaller. I love you Dad. - Posted by: Debbie Regier (daughter (eldest child)) on: Jul 30, 2012

Uncle Louie was a wonderful man, soft spoken but steadfast in his beliefs. Growing up I always enjoyed visiting him, he always was smiling and he never yelled at me. He spoke to me as an equal and he always listened to us kids. Debbie, Darlene, Derek and Darrell, I send my thoughts and prayers to help you through this time and I truly believe that Uncle Louie won't have gone too far, he will still be at all your family gatherings! - Posted by: Doug Freeman (Nephew ) on: Jul 29, 2012
