ANN KAPROWY (SHEWCHUK)
Date of Passing: Aug 19, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANN KAPROWY (nee SHEWCHUK) Peacefully on August 19, 2012, Ann Kaprowy (nee Shewchuk,) passed on to Heaven. She leaves to reflect on her life daughters Angela Kaprowy and Pamela Bishop (late Ken); and grandchildren Lisa Niemiller and husband Bryce of North Dakota, Tara Kaprowy and husband William of Kentucky, Matthew Kaprowy and fiancée Jennie of Edmonton. She was preceded in death by her son Dr. Eugene Kaprowy and husband Tony Kaprowy. She leaves behind her brother Billie (Nell) of Alberta, sister Mary of B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann was born in Arborg, MB, to loving Ukrainian parents. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly to celebrate and pass on this rich heritage, and many delicious Ukrainian meals were served in the dining room of 509 Selkirk Ave. She loved making perogies, piroshki and borscht, prepared the 12 meatless dishes at Christmas, and everything was made from scratch. She loved to cook for company, and there was always room for one more. After hours in the kitchen, she would slip off and return wearing a crisply-ironed white blouse with a denim skirt and a little bit of blue eye shadow. She was ready for her company. If it were the summertime, she would give a tour of her roof garden where she planted roses, geraniums and vegetables. The doors were always open to her children, friends and grandchildren. She babysat with great love, and the highlight of those overnighters was the homemade pancakes that each grandchild made while standing on a chair until the batter was just right. Her other passion was dancing. She did not sit out a polka until well into her early 90s. She encouraged her children to learn the piano and violin. She encouraged higher education. She felt that anything you learned could not be taken from you, it was an accomplishment for life. As for her accomplishments, she was the proud owner of The Original Shop, a fine ladies dress shop that she ran for over 50 years on Selkirk Ave. She had an excellent eye for quality, valued her customers and respected all people. She generously gave when she saw a need. Ann was often called the last of the ladies, a title that described her well. She will be sorely missed. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 23, also at the Chapel. Interment will follow in Bjarmi Cemetery, Arborg, MB. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
