GLADYS MARIE DONALD (nee CHRISTIE) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. Gladys was born and grew up in Winnipeg's West Kildonan area in March of 1933 and passed away on August 19, 2012. Gladys was a strong willed woman who married in 1951, and traveled across Canada as an Army wife. While raising her six children after their divorce in 1965, she was employed in several retail positions and volunteered for many causes, but her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed good health, and worked hard at maintaining her home, and as Diabetes started to take over she became extremely well informed in the nutrition and dietary requirements. Gladys was predeceased by her five brothers; Clifford, Gordon, Harold, Allan and Norman. She will be missed by her six children; Cathy (Ken), Joan (Dan), Heather (Ben), Lorrie (Rick) and Patricia (Rick) and her son John, along with her many grandchildren, Richard, Dale, David, Steven, Gina, Lisa, Jennifer, Benjamin, Christopher, Ryan and Melissa, as well as her five great-grandchildren; Nicholas, Emily, Kelsey, Brooke and Dominick. Gladys enjoyed ceramics and floral arranging but first and foremost she valued family. Our family would like to thank Maples Personal Care Home and the many doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks General Hospital. Cremation will take place at Voyage Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association in Gladys' memory. A celebration of her life will take place Friday, August 24, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. Rest in Peace, Mom We will miss you.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My condolences to the family. I have many happy memories of your Mom, when we were both much younger. When I was much younger Gladys was my idol, I use to try to imitate her. She was always good to us kids. I'm sorry I was unable to attend the service. Rest in peace, Gladys. - Posted by: Dorothy Singbeil (Donald) () on: Aug 24, 2012

  • Was a friend for many years until she moved and I lost track of her. Wish I had read the paper sooner so I could attend the service. She was a good friend and we got together a couple of times for lunch. Rest in Peace Gladys as I know your health wasn't great. - Posted by: Joyce McGregor (friend from school ) on: Aug 24, 2012
