HANK PETERS It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hermann (Hank) Peters on August 26, 2012 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Born in Southern Russia in 1923 he immigrated to Winnipeg with his parents. As a young man he began an apprenticeship at Monarch Machinery which was interrupted when he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. Upon his discharge in 1945, Hank returned to Monarch and climbed through the organization eventually being promoted to foreman, and later to challenging supervisory, sales and administrative positions. Hank was extremely proud of his family, loved the outdoors, and cherished family fishing trips, Christmas tree chopping and many other activities with his sons. During these outings he often marvelled at the beauty of God's creation. Hank also enjoyed gardening and spent hours creating beautiful landscapes. After retiring from Monarch in 1986, Hank established New Dawn Enterprises, a successful sales and marketing agency representing foundries and forging firms. Hank's many business contacts and friendships were very important to him. Hank was a lifelong member of First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg, where he served several functions including Church Council. Hank leaves to cherish his memory, his three sons and their families: Rob (Ellen) of Winnipeg, Gerry (Lonna) of Langley, BC and Mike (Bonnie) of Calgary, AB, as well as six precious grandchildren, Cassidy and Kayden in British Columbia, Logan and Mason in Alberta, and Carly and Griffin of Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents and sister Louise and her husband Henry F. Wiebe of Winkler, he will be fondly remembered by his sister Hedy (Jack) Lepp of Vineland, ON, as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place, a private interment to follow at a later date. The memorial service to celebrate Hank's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 31 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Mental Health Association, or Mennonite Central Committee.

Uncle Hank was always interested in our lives even as the Ontario relatives. He told great stories and loved to joke around. I cherish memories of visits to Winnipeg as a kid where I was made to feel oh-so-special in the Peters home. Even as an adult each time I was in Winnipeg Uncle Hermann was there to pick me up at the airport or take me out for coffee. Fidelity was one of his trademarks. I'll miss him very much. Big hugs to Rob, Gerry and Mike. - Posted by: Ginny Lepp (Niece) on: Aug 31, 2012

I'm so thankful that on a visit to Wpg I was able to visit with Hank on Aug 18. He always added interesting life observations to any group convesations. During my visit he seemed in good spirits and it is a shock that he is now gone. - Posted by: Edward Epp (Friend ) on: Aug 30, 2012

When I was just a little girl, my tall, handsome cousin Hermann taught me to do cartwheels on the lawn of his parents' home. I cherish that memory forever. And, I will be forever grateful to him for spending such quality time with my Dad, solving the problems of the world each Wednesday over coffee at the Sals. Hank and my Mom, Tina (Braun) Bock were first cousins. However, I had the pleasure of meeting Hank in the past several years as he willingly contributed information and photographs of recent and past ancestors. I will treasure his stories and memories as I recall our visits, lunches and laughter. He lived a good life. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace Hank. - Posted by: Karin Bock (Relative) on: Aug 30, 2012
