IRVIN GLEN HONKE With his family at his side, Irvin passed away peacefully on September 4, 2012 at the Beausejour Hospital. He was born in Whitemouth on December 18, 1934. He is survived by his loving wife Alice, of 57 years, his children Glenn (Grace), Terry (Ernie), Chris (Linda) and Lawrence; grandchildren Brad (Amber), Heather (Shawn), Shandal and Shayla, Michael and Jarrett, Corrie, Jessie and Aurora; great-grandchildren Hannah and Ava, and mother Pauline. He was predeceased by his daughter Barbara, his father William, his three brothers Raymond, Douglas and Brian and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Elsie and Albert Hildebrandt. His early years were spent as a labourer at the Seven Sisters Power Dam, then as an Equipment Operator in the Lac du Bonnet area. In 1965 he moved his family to Alberta and started a successful contracting business. In 1970 they moved to Beausejour where he operated Irvin's Contracting for 30 years. Winnipeg became their home in 1982 and he worked for Samax Investments as a sub-contractor. Irvin and Alice returned to the Beausejour area (Kenbro Park) in 1994 and he retired in 2002. Irvin's joy in life was his music, both Country and Gospel. He was a big sports enthusiast and played hockey when he was young as well as played various positions with his brothers and friends for the Hungry Nine fastball team. Some of his happiest years were spent living with Alice at Kenbro Park. He took great pride in working in his garden and helping Alice with her beautiful flower beds. He also enjoyed many leisurely hours fishing on the Brokenhead River and he caught more than his fair share of fish. He loved all animals especially his pet dogs. Thanks to the staff of the Beausejour Hospital for their care and compassion during Irvin's stay. A cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3, or the Beausejour Health Centre, Box 1178, Beausejour, Manitoba R0E 0C0.
