It was a very long time ago that I lived at 'the store' (Grampa and Grannie Nuytten's house, but I still remember aunt Gertie being very kind to a little kid - who missed the mountains and the ocean where he was born. Also liked the raisin bread on the card-playing sundays at Granma's place on Bourget road. - Posted by: Rene (Phil) Nuytten (Husbands nephew) on: Dec 30, 2013

My condolences to the family on your loss. I consider it a blessing to myself and my daughters to have known this wonderful lady as grandma for the last 11 years. She always made us feel a part of the family. She will be missed by myself and Brianna and Cierra. God Bless and hugs to the family - Posted by: Carrie-Anne Glover (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2012

Aunty Gertie was a wonderful lady, very soft spoken and always so cheerful. I also have fond memories of Christmas at the house on Dugald. I especially remember Gertie and my Mom (Betty) always getting together for coffee during the day and sharing recipes. My sister (Karen) and I often recall one spring day when Aunt Gertie had to help my Mom rescue us from the swamp next to our garage that was the garden... our rubber boots are still down there somewhere! I'll never forget Gertie and my Mom and the neighbor boy trying to pull us out of the muck... everyone was full of mud! May we take comfort in the thought that Aunt Gertie and my Mom, Betty, are probably up there now catching up over coffee. Love Cheryl Clague - Posted by: Cheryl Clague (Niece) on: Sep 17, 2012

Your mom was great. She was was always so nice and never had a bad word to say. Could she swear? I doubt it! So easy going and tolerant. My mom, her sister, always thought the world of her too. I still have many good memories of the wonderful times at her home on Dugald Road, where holidays such as Christmas were celebrated, when we had the best turkey dinners. Also can't forget the Sunday evenings during the winters when the parents played cards after dinner and us kids would play late into the night. I still remember Maureen (sorry Robert, not much memory of you) falling asleep on the floor. Aunt Gertie would just have to say a word and your dad would carry you up to bed. I think Maureen could sleep through anything! The last time I spoke to Auntie Gertie was at the Cemetery when my mom died. We had a nice walk and talk, while we were searching out her mom and dad's graves, and she was still the nicest lady I could ever want to meet. Anyway, you have our deepest condolences and best wishes. Love, Ron, Nancy De Gagne and son Grant. - Posted by: Ronnie (Nephew) on: Sep 16, 2012
