He was predeceased by his mother Josephine (1993), his father Rene (1997) and brother Leo (1994). Gilles spent his younger days in St. Boniface and in his early twenties he went to cook in logging camps in northern Alberta and B.C. In 1968, while vacationing back in Winnipeg, he met the love of his life. Gilles and Aline married on March 2, 1968. They started their family and lived in Winnipeg until 1974, when they ventured out west and settled in Prince George, B.C. While in Prince George Gilles joined the Knights of Columbus and became very involved in several of their volunteer programs. In 1985, the family moved back to Winnipeg. Gilles worked as a security guard at the Health Sciences Centre for 19 years. He received his 4th degree in the Knights in 2003. He was so proud of this accomplishment. Gilles retired from work in 2003, and devoted much of his time volunteering for the Knights, Christmas gift wrapping, raffle tickets, bingos, and most important to him were the pancake breakfasts at St. Edward's Church once a month. As he had more time he decided to volunteer at the Brook lands Senior Centre. Once again you could depend on him for pancake breakfasts, special lunches for the members of the Senior Centre. Gilles loved cooking and Aline has quite an adjustment to make in her life. She now has to cook her own suppers and make the yearly tourtieres by herself. A very special thank you to Aunty Agnes for all her visits and wise words. Your visits were extra special to Gilles. He was always so happy to share with us Ma tante was here today. In his words Merci and Je t'aime ma tante . Thank you to all staff of GD4 and GD5 of the Health Sciences Centre for your kindness and loving care for Gilles. A very special thank you to Dr. Carolina Araneda and Monica Dowhanik for the care and attention given to Gilles for the past two months. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Gilles' memory. Pallbearers will be Reanne and Justin Chamberland, Maxine Leflour, Denis Paulhus, Robert St. Goddard and Dylan McColl. I had the pleasure of seeing Gil again at the hospital a few weeks ago and it was my pleasure to enjoy his company and sense of humor again. It has been a long time since I saw him and Aline. I am thankful that he has been such a good and loyal friend to my father! It is not common that people are so close for their entire lives. My dad is lucky to have them in his life. - Posted by: Michael Morin (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2012

Have a fond memory of Gilles as a student and friend at the college. Gilles was a friendly and easy going person who was easy to befriend. Little did I realize that at a later date, he would wed Aline, a next door neighbour in our small community of St. Joseph; again a very wise move my friend Gilles. We extend our sincere sympathies to you, Aline, and your extended family. We will not be able to attend but our thoughts and prayers will be with you. - Posted by: Renald & Lorraine Parent (St. Boniface College 1958 with Gilles and many years in St.Joseph with Aline) on: Sep 17, 2012
