Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE SMERCHANSKI Unexpectedly, but peacefully, at St. Boniface Hospital, Josephine Smerchanski passed away on September 29, 2012, at the age of 82. Josephine will be sadly missed by her daughters Joanne Schrof (Mervin) and Donna Ewonchuk as well as her grandchildren Krista Van dewaeter (Kyle), Jerilyn Dutchak ( Larry), Elisha Ewonchuk, Stacey Schrof (Matt) and Jared Ewonchuk (Erin). She is also survived by her sisters, Ann Pistun and Catherine Stefanyshyn and sister-in-law Helen Mazur, as well as a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill in 1993 as well as her brother Paul and sisters Jean, Nellie and Helen. Josephine was born in Stead, Manitoba, to parents John and Mary Mazur. She moved to Winnipeg in her teens and married Bill Smerchanski in June 1950. They were blessed with two daughters Joanne and Donna. She unselfishly devoted her life to her family. In her married life, Josephine worked at Eatons and also for Elections Canada. She volunteered for many years for various organizations such as the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Age and Opportunity, Seven Oaks Hospital, and the UCWLC of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Cremation and a private interment have taken place. A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., Winnipeg. Your dear Mom was my angel on several occasions in the block where she resided. She would often check on another resident for me thus saving me a trip into the city.
