ONUFRIJ MANDYBUR It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Onufrij Mandybur, on Friday, October 12, 2012 at his home. Onufrij leaves behind his daughter Halia, sister Halyna, along with nieces and nephews in Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife Anastasia and infant daughter, Maria. Onufrij was born in selo Pidhaitsi, Ukraine on July 31, 1925. At the age of 17, he was taken from his home to serve in the Second World War. After the war, Onufrij lived in a displaced persons camp in Germany where he met his future wife Anastasia. He followed her to England where they were married. They lived in England for five years and then immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1953. Onufrij was always a very hardworking man. He first worked in construction after immigrating to Winnipeg, and then found employment at CN Railways where he worked for 33 years until his retirement. Onufrij always took pride in keeping his house and yard in immaculate condition, doing all repairs and maintenance jobs on his own. Onufrij took a keen interest in world current events and he always welcomed a discussion about any worldwide news event. He was an active supporter of events in the Ukrainian community. Religion was a very important part of Onufrij's life. He and his wife Anastasia were members of Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church for over 50 years. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20 at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Onufrij may be made to Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church or to a charity of one's choice.
