CHRIS GLASS September 30, 1984 October 20, 2012 Peacefully, on Saturday morning October 20, 2012, Chris passed away quietly at home. Chris is loved and will be missed forever by his Mom and Dad: Cindy and Eric Glass, his sister Jenna (John) and his four-legged friend, Lelo. Chris will be sadly missed by his grandparents: Doreen Carlow, Vern and Gerry Glass. His Aunties and Uncles: Debbie (Neil), Wendy (Dale), Bob (Trish), Steve (Dawn). His cousins: Kristen (Josh), Lindsay (Andrew), Kyle (Melainee) and Troy (Jen). Chris loved his family so much and spent many hours with them. He was also passionate about his career; his ESSO. Everyone who knew Chris loved him as a genuine, soft hearted, polite and gentle man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. One of Chris' early passions was playing hockey. Chris loved the game and found great success as the captain of the Sanford Sabres in his senior year of High School. He was also selected as an All Star in the WHSHL. He enjoyed being with his teammates on and off the ice. Chris' love of hockey went from the ice to the pavement where he and his buddies would play street hockey for hours. Chris loved his community and the freedom, peace and comfort it gave him. Chris loved to fish and enjoyed many years at the cottage and on the lake. This past summer, Chris had an awesome time with the Old Man (his Grandpa) at the lake with their new Pontoon boat. They spent their days fishing and enjoying time together. Chris also loved to cook. His family appreciated his talent in the kitchen and allowed us to spend time together around the table. We would like to extend our heart-felt thanks to the many family, friends and community members who have and continue to support us during this very difficult time. A celebration of Chris' Life will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Oak Bluff Community Centre in Oak Bluff, Manitoba. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to either the Chris Glass Memorial Fund (Pass it Forward Providing hockey equipment to children in need) and can be mailed to or dropped off at the Oak Bluff Branch, Sanford Credit Union, 7 Mellow Street, Sanford, Manitoba, R0G 2J0; or to the Arthritis Society of Manitoba (ASM), #105 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 3R6. Chris taught us that you do not need to have a higher education to find success. He found success in life that was built on character and touched many people because of it. He taught us to persevere, to be generous with those in need and that love is expressed in more ways than just words.

Condolences & Memories (25 entries)

  • I went to high school with Chris, and later lived across from his Esso. He had been kind to me in school, but I wouldn't say we were friends. After highschool it was nice to see him at Esso, and I always looked forward to seeing him. We did become friends. I moved away, and we lost touch. I am really so, so sad to hear he has passed away. Rest in peace, Chris. - Posted by: Mel B () on: Dec 22, 2014

  • I grew up playing with Jenna and my brother with Chris. Life moved on and we lost touch. I will never forget, even back then how sweet and nice Chris was. I am sorry, Eric, Cindy, and my old friend Jenna. Losing a child and brother must be the hardest things in life. My thoughts are with you all. I smile when I think of Chris, running up the bay to play with my brother. <3 - Posted by: Jenny (old friend - neighbour) on: Dec 10, 2012

  • We just arrived home from a trip and were told of this sad loss. We did not know Chris but what we have read reminds us of Eric and Cindy. He sounds like the loving, generous, kind person we would expect of a son of Eric and Cindy. The apple does not fall far from the tree. We are so sorry for your loss. We are thinking of you and wish you peace. Mo and Pat - Posted by: Maureen and Pat Grace (friend of parents) on: Oct 31, 2012

  • Chris and I weren't friends and did not know each other well, however I do know that he was such a kind person. We went to high school together. I was never in the "popular" crowd, but that did not stop Chris from being kind and polite to myself, or others. In passing in the hallway or in class, we wouldn't hesitate to say a friendly hello. A few years ago I bumped into him while getting my car's oil changed. We briefly chatted, and I was grateful that he was so sincerely kind. I am saddened by his passing, and hope and pray that others will treat people the way Chris treated people. My thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, sister, extended family and friends. I cannot begin to comprehend how difficult this time must be and will be in the future. - Posted by: Danielle (Classmate) on: Oct 27, 2012

  • I first met Chris when he worked at the Taylor Esso. He was such an outgoing and sociable person that I always found myself in a conversation with him each and every time about something new and interesting. Later I move from Taylor to Fort Gary. I walked into the Chancellor Esso to grab my Proline ticket one day and there he was, smiling from ear to ear. When he told me he bought the store, I was proud of him. I was and always will be honored to know you. Rest in peace brother! - Posted by: Christopher A. Catanzaro (Esso Customer) on: Oct 26, 2012

  • October 25th 2012, I would like to say that I feel a profound loss and sadness for the family during this unconscionable time in their life (Eric / Cindy / Jenna) no one person should ever have to bury a child or brother at such a young age. I can unequivocally say 2 very important things about Chris (1) he taught me that working in a group teaches us co-operation, balance + unselfishness and that no one of us, is any more, or any less important, than the other & (2) Chris taught me, that if you work for him……..he’d work for you. A great poet once said “In the sweetness of friendship, let there be laughter and sharing of pleasures for in the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed”. Rest in Peace my friend…….for serenity has found you and you it.  - Posted by: Ronald Perreaux (Former Employee) on: Oct 25, 2012

  • Truly one of the nicest students I ever taught in my 30 plus years. He was polite, treated all with respect and was liked by all. I am so sorry to hear that a person so young and a person with so much to offer is no longer among us. Our thoughts are with you at this unimaginably difficult time. - Posted by: zolt virag (one of his teachers) on: Oct 24, 2012

  • I was a customer at Esso and became very good friends with Chris. We would sit in his office have coffee and tell me all about his fishing trips, he donated to my sons Terry Fox Run and I will sadly miss our talks and laughs we had. I am very sorry to hear about his loss it also broke my heart I feel for all as I have lost a brother as well. Monday I stopped at Esso to have our talk and coffee and found out about his passing he was such a kind man I cried all the way home.
