JACK (JACOB) KOSTEN Sadly after a period of declining health, Jack passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Trudy, his daughter Pat McPhillips with her sons Kevin and Ian, and his son Kerry with his wife Karen and daughter Ashley, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Frank, who died in childhood, and son-in- law Michael. Jack lived for his family and it brought him joy to see his family grow when his grandsons married, Kevin to Grace, and Ian to Keri. Last summer he met his first great-grandson, Finley. Holidays came to include Kerry and Karen's aunties, uncles and cousins in St. Laurent, and the Hrabi and Nieuwenburg families and this made him happy indeed. Jack and Trudy immigrated to Canada from The Netherlands in 1951. Jack was a machinist, spending most years working at Griffin Steel, then a brief time in Esterhazy, SK, and retiring from Metric Machine. Leisure time was spent at the cottage at Hillside Beach and doing woodworking, which we have to remember him by. The family would like to thank the community at Villa Cabrini where Jack and Trudy lived the last three years, and we have unending gratitude for the wonderful staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, who gave Jack such excellent care in recent months. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service. As Jack was given the gift of surviving cancer three times, a donation to CancerCare in lieu of flowers is appreciated.

Kerry and Pat, friends and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Jack was always so kind, friendly and generous. I admired his bravery for coming to a strange country and starting anew. I thank Jack and Trudy both for teaching me about their history with their wonderful and entertaining storytelling. Rest Peacefully Mr. Kosten. <3 - Posted by: Laurice LaVallée () on: Jan 15, 2013

Dear Patty I am so sorry to hear about your dad. He was such a robust fellow who did not say much when I was around but you knew he was there none the less. And he was very kind to me. Know that even after all these years I think of you and your family with great fondness. Know that my thoughts are with you at this time and I am truly sorry for your loss. Love and blessings.....Sidney - Posted by: Sidney Q. Macaw (former classmate) on: Nov 08, 2012
