Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA MATWICHUK May 9, 1924 - November 12, 2012 Suddenly, but peacefully on November 12, 2012, at Health Sciences Centre, our mother, Maria Matwichuk passed away at the age of 88, with her sons by her side. Maria will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Paul and George (Judy); sister Olga; sister-in-law Anisia; special nieces Marta and Vera; numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Zenon; her parents; brother George; sisters, Irene and Oksana. Maria was born in Bonuluka, Yugoslavia and married Zenon in Ukraine before coming to Canada in 1948. She worked for a while at Childs Restaurant and the North Main Drive-In, but spent most of her time raising her boys and looking after her home. One of Maria's proudest moments was in 2001 when Pope John Paul II beatified her cousin, Bishop Vasyl Velychkovsky, C.Ss.R. as a Blessed Martyr. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 15 (tonight) at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 16 also at the Church with a Redemptorist Father officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
