PETER DEFER October 27, 1929 - November 18, 2012 Peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Peter Defer, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away with his wife Irene, of 55 years, and their sons by his side. Peter was born on October 27, 1929 in Haskett, Manitoba, to the blended family of Defer and Martens. The family moved to Ste. Elizabeth where Peter grew up on the family farm. Peter started his working career on the farm in Ste. Elizabeth, before moving to Winnipeg, where he held various sales positions, culminating in a management position with Monarch Industries. Peter had many passions in life, including baseball and track in his younger years and curling and golf in his later years. Peter was very active in his Church, serving in various positions and on several boards. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Irene, and two sons, Daniel (Gail) and James (Cheryl), grandchildren Jordan (Kayla), Travis, Karen (Adam), Richard, Kaeli, Rowen, Miranda, Rebecca, Dylan, and great-grandchildren Kaeden, Hunter, and Elijah. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mary Defer, five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by brother Julius (Lillie) Martens and sisters Helen Unruh and Rita (Jack) Fast. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial Services to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favourite charity or to Mennonite Central Committee.
