GERALDINE JANE TURNER (FRASER)
Date of Passing: Nov 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALDINE JANE TURNER (nee FRASER) Born December 13, 1939 passed away November 20, 2012 with her daughter Dawn holding her hand at Health Sciences Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. Gerry was predeceased by her parents Mary Fraser Purdy, David Fraser, and John Purdy; husband of 45 years Garth Turner; and sister Marion Bauer. Mom leaves to cherish her memory, sons Tom (Sherry); Glenn (Rachel), grandsons, Kyle and Craig; daughter Dawn (Cliff) Watson, granddaughters, Emily and Sarah; brother David (Louise) Fraser and many relatives. Mom worked for over 30 years in the Assiniboine South/Pembina Trails School Division and made many friends before retiring in 2003. Mom and Dad enjoyed their summers at Spruce Sands Resort. Mom loved to read her books and do crossword puzzles there. Mom also enjoyed bird watching there and always had a feeder set out for the hummingbirds. Mom and Dad would often host the evening fire out at the lake, where Mom could be relied on to provide snacks, baking and other goodies. Gerry will be missed around the fire pit by all her friends in "A" bay. Mom and Dad used to have large family dinner parties where Mom's cooking and baking were always a hit. Mom often wouldn't eat at the meal having nibbled away the whole time cooking. Although Mom was unable to eat the last few years she was still baking and cooking for friends and family. The family would like to thank the doctors Kerr, Maksymiuk, Butler and the staff at the Head and Neck Clinic at CancerCare Manitoba. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff on GH5 at the HSC where Gerry spent her last days in their excellent care. Special thanks to Noel, Susan and Babs and Jeff for their care and concern. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to CancerCare Manitoba. Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Gerry's life will be held Saturday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue (corner of Henderson Hwy).

We are so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. As a child, I spent many "sleep overs" at your house since we lived just across the street. Your mom was always so kind and cheerful! She will always be remembered! Thinking of you all. Sincerely, Lauren McEachern (Mack) - Posted by: Lauren McEachern (Neighbor) on: Dec 24, 2012

While we've always lived so many miles apart, our family has treasured and will always treasure the connection to our Winnipeg cousins. We are with you now. Gerry was a huge part of those cherished family memories we've all built together around her devoted love, care, cooking and baking!!! Thanks for sharing her with us all these many years together. From bathing baby Justin up at the lake on the front deck in a little plastic tub to rolling up cabbage rolls or pinching off pies together while we caught up on life, all of it is part of who we are now, and the love we will continue to shower on our own families. She set the bar high! - Posted by: Linda Fraser Jacobsen (niece) on: Nov 26, 2012

My sympathy to Tom, Glenn, Dawn & families. Our friendship started 48 years ago when we all lived on Hudson St. What fun times those were! I will miss your Mom & her positive attitude. Love to you all, Carol - Posted by: Carol Leroux (friend) on: Nov 24, 2012

Tom, Glenn, Dawn and the rest of the family. We are so sorry to hear about your enormous loss. I remember her smile, her laugh and her stories. A woman that opened her home (and trailer) to all those that would like to enter. I know you will all miss her terribly and my thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Esther, James and family (Friends) on: Nov 22, 2012
