I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Adelberto, or as I knew him 'Sr. Adelberto'. Since I was a young child and my dad used to take me to Banda Lira De Fatima rehearsals, I remember him being a dedicated, permanent fixture at the band who obviously, and truly loved what he did. The last time I saw him was a few years ago at a procession outside the Immaculate Conception Church, and we spoke for awhile. The first thing he said was his obligatory opener whenever we met asking me when I was coming back to band, which I always expected and found good humour in, since it had already been several years since I had left. He then went on to tell me that he was getting too tired in his older age to finish an entire procession, so he was now only doing a partial and stopping when he could no longer continue. I remember the overwhelming sense of respect I had for him for the commitment he had for what he loved, to still come out and finish what he could. I will always admire and respect him for his dedication. I'm sure he will cross my mind from time to time, and I will think of him as a good example. I regret not being made aware of his passing soon enough, otherwise I would have made sure to be in town to attend his service. - Posted by: Robert (AKA Bob, Bobby) Borges (Friend from Banda Lira De Fatima) on: Dec 07, 2012

My deepest sympathy and condolences to the entire Alves family. I remember a time when visiting at their home. Mr. Alves explained how he made his wonderful wine and then showed me his wine making room and the process he used to make the wine. He strongly advised me to be careful when smelling the aroma of the wine as it was fermenting in the pit. I jumped onto the side of the wall and took a deep breath in to get a good wiff...... I don't remember much after that,..... Mr. Alves pulled me out of the pit as I had passed out head first into his wine. We had a good laugh together and then we sampled his wonderful wine that night and had some more laughs. He was always so nice to me and I felt so comfortable while visiting all of the Alves family at their home. My prayers are with your entire family at this sad time. Sincerely, Alf Carboni - Posted by: Alf Carboni () on: Dec 07, 2012
