MARIA DEMCZYSZAK On December 5, 2012, Maria was reunited with her husband Stefan, who has been waiting patiently for her for 24 years in Heaven. She will be greatly missed by her son Roman (Karen), daughter Zorianna Faseruk (Randy) and beloved granddaughter Mia. Maria also leaves extended family Halyna and Ihor Drahun with children Ivan and Anna-Maria as well as many friends here in Winnipeg, in Canada and Ukraine. Maria Diduch was born in Sudovaya Vishnya, Western Ukraine on July 19, 1923. Life was interrupted when she was taken from her family as a teen to work in Germany during the War. Making her way to England afterwards, Maria met other displaced Ukrainians from back home, like Stefan, her future husband. They married in 1949, immigrating to Canada to begin a new life in 1953. With no other family, Maria and Stefan quickly connected with the Ukrainian community. Friends became family. She was a very active member of SUM, the Canadian Ukrainian Institute Prosvita, Ukrainian Canadian Catholic Women's League, Dumka Choir, and faithfully belonged to the Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga. A strong alto singer, Maria was a proud member of the choir conducted by Maestro Vasyl Kardash. She sewed in different factories here in Winnipeg, settling in as a stay-at-home mother when she was blessed with children at an older age in life. Maria loved gardening, embroidering, cooking traditional meals and taking great pride in having a loving home. Blueberry and mushroom picking were favourite pastimes and spending summers at Ukrainian Park was all she ever needed to get away. Never wanting her children to experience what she had lived through, Maria made sure they always had the best of everything. Maria had an incredible work ethic and always knew that with perseverance, hard work, and a faith in God, family and culture, everything will work out in the end. In 1998, she fulfilled a life-long dream and returned to Ukraine for the first time, a trip filled with amazing experiences and sorrowful memories. Priding herself on never having more than a common cold, Maria was fiercely independent and lived on her own until a month ago when she fell ill. Thank you to all of God's angels, the staff of GH4 at Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional care during this difficult time. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 7 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Buyachok officiating. Interment is to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Flowers politely declined - please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mama, we know that you have been lonely without Tato all these years. We have peace in knowing that you are together again. Vichna yiyi pam'yat KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193

Dear Zirka and Roman, my deepest condolences. Your beautiful Mama traveled to Ukraine with me a number of years ago -- it was her first trip back home after being taken from her village as forced labour by the Nazis during the war. She was visiting her home on her birthday! The whole village came out to the road to greet her, she spent a few days "home," and the church service in her home church was for her! When she returned to the hotel in Lviv she was beaming. And she brought back a torte for the rest of the tour group. I enjoyed seeing her in Winnipeg. A beautiful and lovely woman. Your memories will remain with you. Vichna Yiyi Pam'iat'! - Posted by: Orysia Tracz () on: Dec 07, 2012
