GREGORY DANOS With great sadness the family announces the passing of Gregory Danos on December 8, 2012, at the age of 65. He passed away peacefully with his loving family and friends by his side. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Athanasia and his daughters Aretti and Maria. Surviving siblings are Angelo (Giorgia), Maria and brother-in-law Kosta (Anthi) in Greece. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Kosta and Aretti, his in-laws, Triandaphilo and Maria, and his brothers-in-law, Leo and Andrea. Gregory was born in Patras, Greece on July 31, 1947. He then immigrated to Montreal with his brother in his mid-twenties. Shortly after he met Athanasia, the love of his life, which he moved to Winnipeg for. In Winnipeg, he began his career with Dominion Bridge. Gregory and Athanasia were married in October of 1974 and were later blessed with two beautiful daughters. Gregory was working at McPhillips Street Station for the last 13 years, where he recently retired in September, 2012. He made many friends at this job and was fondly known by them as Papou. Gregory was an easy going, sociable man and enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee daily. He was very passionate about gardening and on any given summer day could be found in the backyard attending to his vegetables. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Gregory loved him. The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses, and staff at the Grace Hospital ICU for their compassionate care. Prayers will be held Wednesday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. Funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos presiding. Interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Greg can be made to the Hellenic Cultural Centre. Prayers will be held Wednesday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. Funeral Service will be held at the same location on Thursday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos presiding. Interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery. A longer obituary will follow. Voyage 204-668-3151
