Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSE MARTINS GOVERNO June 23, 1934 - December 7, 2012 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather (vôvô), José Martins Governo on December 7, 2012. José fought hard against prostate cancer, but in the end he lost the battle at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Francisco and Antonio. He will be sadly missed by Emilia, his loving wife of 46 years, sons John (Sheri), Nelson (Brandy) and Carlos (Rhandi); as well as by grandchildren Justin, Cory, Amanda, Madalena, Juliana and great-niece Taylor, the joys of his life. Also left to mourn are sisters Maria (Antonio), Augusta (Manuel), Ilda; brothers Manuel (Aida), Joaquim (Fernanda); sisters-in-law Relinda and Porfiria. José will also be fondly remembered by many more family and friends in Canada and Portugal. Dad (Pai) was born in Vale da Serra, Portugal in 1934. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 in hope of finding a better life and providing support to his parents and siblings left behind. Pai worked many years in Southern Ontario region before settling in Winnipeg. In 1966, José returned to Portugal to marry the love of his life, Emilia. He brought his new bride to Winnipeg, and together they assisted many other family members to start new lives here. The Governo family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Health Sciences Centre (GH4) and CancerCare Manitoba. Vigil Prayers 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12 at Immaculate Conception Perish, 181 Austin Street N. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Parish. This kind and wonderful person will never be forgotten and will remain forever in our hearts. He was one of the kindest persons I had the pleasure and blessing of knowing. My condolences to all the family. May you find peace and comfort in the beautiful and great memories you shared with him and knowing that he is suffering no more. We will always remember your dad/husband/grandfather/uncle as a wonderfully understanding, caring and kind individual. He always had a ready smile for everyone. We especially admired his love for his children and grandchildren....as well as all of his family and friends. His strength and courage in all aspects of his life were truly admirable. We are so sorry for your loss.
