EVELYN (TOOTS) EVANS With great sadness, Evelyn's family lost their Mom, grandmother and great-grandmother on December 12, 2012 at the age of 97. Mom was born and spent her early years in Ladywood, Manitoba. She fondly reminisced about her Little House on the Prairie life there, taking care of the ducklings and playing with the calves. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1977. She was also predeceased by five siblings; Mary, Anne, Rose, Bill and Joe and five nieces and nephews; Cynthia, Florence, Jack, Kenny and Alan. After Dad's death, Mom's life centered around her growing family and her church. Mom was kind-hearted and gentle and her door was always open. Mom taught us many important life lessons. Mom will be mourned by her sons Dale (Joyce), Bill (Emily) and Bob (Louise) and by her daughter Linda Ainley. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Debbie, Cindy, Ricky, Kim, Shelly, Michelle, Roni, Glenna, Rick, Pam, Candace and Jennifer and her great-grandchildren Christopher, Patrick, Nichole, Angela, Matthew, Danielle, Trevor, Derrick, Adam, Amanda, Melissa, Brandon, Dawn, Allison, Avery, Cullen, Jocelyn, Rowan, Aiden and Aimee. Mom leaves behind one older sister Grace and many loved nieces and nephews. Our special thanks goes to Evelyn Wiebe who visited Mom for many, many years. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Interment Assumption Cemetery. Funeral Home and Crematorium 843 Sherbrook Street, 204-774-7474 Parking behind funeral home Condolences: www.bardal.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I did not know until today of Auntie Toots' passing. The funny thing is that I am sure she came to visit me this past weekend. I was thinking of her and how my family, Mike and Gerry Krawzuk, were always welcomed at the cottage at Twin Beaches. I stayed there with Auntie for a few days and she taught me to make peanut butter cookies with bacon fat. They tasted great but even then I kind of knew that it was good/bad food, but ate it anyways. I still have pictures of me walking Paddy down the beach and then Misty. I loved dogs and was only too happy to be spending time with them and to add the beach to walk on, well I was in heaven. My thoughts are with all of the family members today as they lay their loved one to rest. Linda big hugs to you dear Cookie. - Posted by: Rosemary Sourisseau (nee Krawzuk) (Old friend of the family) on: Dec 17, 2012

  • Memories of Grandma... her and Grandpa's home on Warsaw Avenue, the large climbing tree out front, the narrow "winding" staircase and the fancy "crystal" doorknobs that made it feel like a castle. Kelly and Misty. Her LOVE for animals. Her farm stories of when she was a little girl. How hard she would laugh while trying to tell a funny story. Her priority of creating over cleaning :) Christmases with a tree lit by those bright extra hot fire hazard lights with family dinners around the big fancy dining table, and the old aunties' fur coats smelling of perfume piled high on her bed- a great place to cozy into while watching one of 3 fuzzy channels in black and white. Blue boy vanilla ice cream (and his portrait), big buttertarts, a tasty favourite "fish eyes" (large creamy tapioca pudding!), perogies the size of elephant ears, always having wonderbars, kitkats and oh henry bars in bulk stocked in her tiny kitchen, lots of TEA PARTIES with hot sweet jello in fancy china :) Mini Tetley tea statues GALORE and on every windowsill ornaments. Sneaking upstairs to explore the "dark room"- boxes and piles and heaps of buttons, materials, old pictures and toys, antique knick-knack after antique knick-knack- STUFFED ANIMALS, coats being taken apart to create a new cuddly creature by hand with her- and the WOOL!! The truck load of wool she purchased from Eaton's because it was SUCH a good deal- I STILL have some of it, I think I always will because it is such a good story :) Her beautifully knitted sweaters and blankets. Willard Scott. Youth In Asia (euthanasia!!). Seeing the good in others to a fault. Digging plants up from the ditches while driving her K-car to the lake, picking and loading the trunk with baby's breath. Exploring her huge collection of avon mini-lipsticks, fancy perfume bottles, costume jewellery, fancy white gloves and fur stoles. Sleepovers on a big fluffy pink duvet cloud. GARAGE SALES. Saving everything to always be able to make something out of anything- the family's first environmentalist? Taking Avery and Cullen to visit her in their Halloween costumes and hours spent watching them draw pictures for her, sharing Christmas cookies that they baked and decorated, taking Oakley to the nursing home for visits. Her sewing boxes. Grandma was a very creative person and I've been lucky to have inherited many of her traits and interests. I am sorry though, I do not share her love for buttermilk and regret the day I gave in and finally tried it for her sake. Despite that one incident, Grandma was a great Grandma who was loving and generous, with a soft spot for all her grandkids. Gone but not forgotten.... We love you! - Posted by: Glenna Evans Mulvihill (Grand daughter) on: Dec 16, 2012
