JULIETTE NYS (nee BLAINE) On December 16, 2012 after a brief illness, Juliette Blaine Nys passed away in St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 91. Julie was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Ferdinand Matthew (Sandy) Nys, parents Irene and Albert Blaine, sister Frances Vermander, and son-in-law Phil Lester. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving family: sister Aline Morin; daughters Irene Lester, Lorraine and Wayne Wuirch, Linda and Grant Rowe, Sandra and George Leclerc, and Corrine Nys; grandchildren Debbie and Doug Robinson, Michele and Jeff Anderson, Jeff Wuirch, Josh and Kelleigh (Coombs) Wuirch, Sandra and Sean Barnett, Kristopher and Emily Rowe, Christine and Joe Laplant, and Joel and Diana Leclerc; great-grandchildren Virginia and Matthew Robinson, Seth Wuirch, Taylor, Madison, James and Jacklynn Wuirch-Coombs, Emily and Hayden Barnett, Leo Rowe, Isabelle Laplant, Ella, Ethan and Ryan Leclerc, and countless nieces, nephews and friends. We realize that this is a lot of names, but felt it was important to list everyone because to Julie, family was paramount! She remembered every birthday, every anniversary, and every significant event, even during her last few days in the hospital. Her family and faith were her touchstones, and they carried her through a life filled with challenge and change. Julie was born on November 24, 1921, in St. Boniface, and grew up a shy, sheltered middle daughter, until she met Sandy, a brash young man from the tough side of St. Boniface, in 1938. Their relationship spanned a war, five children, eight different homes, illness, adversity, joys and sorrows, and throughout it all she maintained an astonishing level of dignity and grace. Her faith was unwavering; daily prayers and mass were an integral part of her life. You could not meet her and not be touched by her wisdom, gentle strength, and humour. She loved a good story, a good meal, and a good party. A celebration of Julie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway #1 East at Navin Road. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Winnipeg Harvest, where her daughter Corrine is a longtime volunteer. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Not a day goes by that I don't think "I have to give Mom a call". She loved to talk to her sister, Aunty Lynn, and her daughters, every day if possible. I admit, I didn't call her as often as she would have liked, but she was constantly on my mind. I miss her and her sense of humor. I will love you forever, Mom. - Posted by: Lorraine Wuirch (Daughter) on: Jan 29, 2013

  • This is a huge loss for my son and I. Seth is only 8 years old right now but he has an incredible memory. He has referenced "Grandma Julie" so many times over the past couple years and remembers her fondly, as do I. He was visibly saddened to learn that she is now gone forever. There truly was no other person in life who was as compassionate and unconditional in her love for all of us. Alive she was an angel. In passing she is my saint. And I take comfort in the belief that she is now resting in the arms of her best friend, my grandfather. With all our love... - Posted by: Jeff and Seth Wuirch (grandson and great grandson) on: Jan 29, 2013
