VERNA WILHELMINA KENDEL (nee TEMPLE) Unexpectedly, but peacefully on December 22, 2012 our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma passed away at St. Joseph's Residence surrounded by her family. She joins all those who she missed and loved: Husband, Howard (1999); Mother, Louise (Muttie); Father, Frank; siblings, Elsie, Helen, Hildegarde, Elizabeth, Herbert. Loved in life, cherished in memory by: children, Penny (Len), Jeff (Lynn), Kevin (Angie), Leanne (Rick) and Lorrie (Peter). Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, Jarrett (Tammy Jackson, Grayson, Jamason); Amber (fiancé Tony); Melonie (Shaylan - Ryan); Kyle (Shari Koltyn, Sadie, Karson); Jordan; Jessica, Erik, Jake, Daniella, Joel and Amy; also special Niece Paula and a large extended family. Mom was born on Johnson Avenue on October 31, 1926. She spent her childhood in Elmwood before moving to MacNutt, SK when she was 12 years old. She met Howard when she was 14 years old and they were married four years later on November 25, 1944. They moved back to Winnipeg with Penny, Jeff and Kevin in 1955 living in Kirkfield Park and Windsor Park before moving to 668 Dunrobin Avenue, where they welcomed two more daughters, Leanne and Lorrie, into their family. In July 1974 Mom and Dad opened Kendel's Service Station and Restaurant, where Mom worked until her retirement in 1992. Mom moved into St. Joseph's Residence in May 2008 due to health issues. We would like to say a special thank you to all the wonderful staff at St. Joseph's for taking special care of their "princess". You are all truly angels. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberly Ave., on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m; Pastor Bruce Gelhorn presiding.   • Remembering the great time when I was 15 years old stayed with Aunt Verna & Uncle Howard for one month when on summer school vacation. I had an awesome time with my second cousin Leanne. I worked a bit in their restaurant, actually my first experience in work lol. My condolence is sent to the whole family. Take good care.   • I am very saddened to hear of Verna's passing. She was godmother to my son, Jeff, and was a very special person.   • So sorry to hear of Verna's passing. We will always remember breakfasts on Saturdays at the service station. More importantly we appreciated her sage advice and help when we were raising our teenagers. We still miss Howard and ring his cow bell on his belt.
