Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLDRICH LUKES Unexpectedly, on December 31, 2012, our beloved grandpa Oldrich Lukes passed away in his home. He is survived by son Richard and his wife Janice and their triplet sons Adam, Milan and Noah; and brother Jaroslav (Jerry), his wife Bozena (Barb), their daughter Alena and her husband Richard. Oldrich was predeceased by his wife Helena in 1995. Born in January 31, 1938, Oldrich immigrated to Canada in 1968. He worked as an electronics technician at the University of Manitoba for more than 25 years working at the Physics and Chemistry Departments, the Cyclotron, and later with Computer Services. He had a life-long passion for mechanical work and electronics repair which he shared with his son and grandsons. Oldrich loved to listen to music with Dixieland, big-band and guitar instrumentals being some of his favourites. He was an avid reader, listened to Czech broadcasts via internet radio, and enjoyed working with computers and Skyping with distant friends. Oldrich was a devoted grandparent who loved nothing more than to spend time with his grandsons. The boys have fond memories of birthdays, Christmases, trips to flea markets, sleepovers, grandpa's home cooked meals and just hanging out with him at his home. We are so thankful to have spent one more special Christmas with Grandpa and are comforted that he was in excellent spirits when we spoke to him on his last day. We are grateful to Oldrich's long-time neighbour Eva Hladik and her family for their friendship. We would like to thank Dr. Y. Fahmy and rehab therapist Donna at Victoria Hospital for greatly improving Oldrich's quality of life. The family would also like to thank the first responders, paramedics and ER staff for their rapid response, professionalism and caring. We know that Oldrich is now reunited with his beloved wife Helena and his pet cat Chinda. We will remember you always. A private celebration of his life with family and friends will be held. I only knew Oldrich through his son Richard. I only met him once. I was often told of his passion to restore old computers back to working condition. I am sad to finally hear of his death. My best regards to the entire family. - Posted by: Salik Rafiq (attended U of M with son Richard) on: Jan 31, 2014
