ELMA MALINAK Following a brief illness, Elma passed away at Concordia Hospital on January 4, 2013, at the age of 82. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Michael, her sister Clara Goritz, her sisters-in-law Helen (Ed), and Betty; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Elma is predeceased by her parents August and Helena Hoppe; her brother Ewald Hopp; her sisters Elsie (Gus), Pauline (Louie), Lily (Walter); her brother-in-law Ewald Goritz; Michael's parents Andrew and Helen Malinak. Elma was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan, on June 8, 1930. She lived her early years in Saskatchewan, later moving to Winnipeg where she met her husband Michael, and they were then married the next year, October 16, 1971. Elma and Michael lived on their farm in Dugald, where they shared the work of farming, while Elma drove in to Winnipeg every day for work. Elma worked in various places throughout her life, eventually starting a new career with P&H foods, where she worked from 1979 up to her and Michael's retirement in 1990. Elma enjoyed working in her large flower garden, and they always enjoyed travelling whenever possible. After their retirement, Elma and Michael lived on their farm for eight years, until they moved to Transcona on October 1, 1998. Elma and Michael lived in Transcona for 11 years until they sold their home March 17, 2011, when they decided to move into their apartment on Kildonan Green Drive. Elma was a joy to know, and she had a ready smile. She loved cooking and baking, and always had a recipe to share with others. She loved the company of her family, and her friends, and she was loved by all. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, located on Hwy. #1 East at Navin Rd., with internment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
