MARIE MELNYK After a lengthy illness, peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Joseph's Residence, Marie passed away at the age of 96 years. Mom was born on January 16, 1916 in Silver, Manitoba to parents Mary and Michael Pidstawka and was the third of six children. She moved to Winnipeg when she was 18. In 1935 Marie married Peter Melnyk who predeceased her in 1984. During her lifetime she worked in a number of areas until she began her long employment with the Hudson Bay Company where she worked for 25 years until her retirement. Mom assisted with the raising of her grandson Matthew from 1983 until 1991. She loved him with all her heart and enjoyed being able to spend all that time with him. In addition to gardening, she thoroughly enjoyed travelling and made many trips with Matt and her daughter to Grand Forks, Florida, California, and Hawaii. Marie leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Patricia (Murdock), grandson Matthew Murdock, his wife Melissa, and two beautiful great-granddaughters Madison (three) and Brianna (one) who, even in her declining condition, managed to bring a sparkle to her eyes and, as much of a smile as she could manage, to her face. In addition she is survived by her sister Joyce (Leskiw) as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Frank, Charles and Maurice as well as sister Jean (Kusyk), brothers-in-law Harry and Michael, sisters-in-law Rose, Joyce and Pauline. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Marie's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Sincere thanks go to Dr. T. Babick and the staff of St. Joseph's Residence for the tender loving care and compassion they showed Mom over the years. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
