GERHARD (GEORGE) REIMER Peacefully with his family at his side, George Reimer went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 21, 2013. George was born on August 14, 1926 to Gerhard and Agatha Reimer in Schoenau, Ukraine. George fled the Soviet Union to Germany in 1943 and migrated to Paraguay in 1947. Here he met his wife to be Olga Krueger and they were married July 1949. Together they immigrated to Canada in September of 1955. George appreciated the opportunities and the freedom to raise his family in Canada, working much of his life as a grocer at Redekop Lumber and also at Defehr and Palliser Furniture. Besides his family and his work, the church was a very significant part of his life. He expressed his faith and commitment by serving on numerous committees, the church council, teaching Sunday school and co-ordinating senior's activities and worship. George felt best when he was surrounded by his family and loved them dearly. His positive and always hopeful perspective will be missed by all. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife Olga; children Willie (Ingrid), Diane Wahl (Albert), Jake (Pat), Katie Booy (Harold), Margaret, and daughter-in-law Linda; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. George is also survived by his two brothers Peter (Lydia) and Abe (Margaret) and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and his son Harry. Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
