PETER HARBOWY Suddenly on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Stonewall Hospital, at the venerable age of 97, our beloved Uncle Peter has passed on. A deeply spiritual man, he will now join his parents, his four sisters and one brother, as well as two nieces and two nephews. However, Peter is survived and remembered lovingly by his four nieces and three nephews. Peter was a quiet, modest man who lived in Komarno his whole life. Devoted to his parents, he worked on the family farm with them as well as helping to raise the large vegetable garden (some of which provided the deer with a daily salad). When money was scarce, he supplemented the vegetable garden by trapping rabbits for food. His mother, father and Peter moved from the original homestead to the town of Komarno where Peter built his own house, including the windows. Unafraid of hard labour, Peter worked as a mechanic at the local garage while continuing to farm on a more limited basis. In his younger years, he had worked as a logger, cutting the heavy railway ties by hand. As children, his nephews and nieces would follow him around "helping" with the cows and other chores such as picking mushrooms and high-bush cranberries. With Peter's accepting manner and sense of humour, he taught us much about nature and about life. Beside his playful spirit, Peter had a quick mind, never failing to impress us with his mathematical skills, all done without electronics or even paper and pen. When we became adults, we used to enjoy visiting with him and accompanying him to the local Chicken Chef. Peter was a kind, non-judgemental individual and his passing leaves us with both a sad void and joyful memories. Rest in peace; we will miss you. A funeral service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Teulon on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Interment at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Komarno. MACKENZIE FUNERAL CHAPEL TEULON (204) 467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
