OLEKSA (ALEX) LUCZENCZYN Oleksa (Alex) Luczenczyn, on January 23, 2013, passed away, peacefully, with his family at his side. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years Tekla (Tina), sons Jerry, Stephan, daughter Maria (Irwin), daughter-in-law Shirley, grandchildren Samantha, Andrew, Jerry Jr., Christopher, Maggie, Zane, Brianna, great-grandson Cayden, and family in the Ukraine. He was recently predeceased by eldest son Peter. Oleksa was born March 17, 1927, in Knajzoluka Ukraine. He first met his wife, Tekla, after the war, in a work camp in Germany. Both relocated to England, where they were reunited, married in 1948 and started their family. They immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in 1955. He found employment with CNR and retiring in 1986. He was always proud that he was strong and could provide well for his family. Oleksa was always busy. He enjoyed tinkering, construction and was always willing to help anyone with their projects. He enjoyed the simple things in life like wandering in the bush looking for blueberries and mushrooms. He loved his family and we all love him. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team and Dr. Lacerte in Oakbank for their help in fulfilling Dad's wishes to pass away at home. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to IERHA Palliative Care Program, 24 Aberdeen Ave., P.O. Box 339, Pinawa, MB R0E 1L0.
