TERESA (TEKLA) DZWONEK June 4, 1940 - January 25, 2013 Teresa Dzwonek passed peacefully at Grace Hospice on Friday, January 25, 2013 with her best friend and daughter Sonia by her side. Teresa came to Canada from Australia to start her adventure. She was a mother at heart and had her three prides and joys Lawrence, Tony and Sonia. She then went on to nursing school and had a very fulfilling career with many years spent at Concordia Hospital. This is where she met and kept her very close group of friends. She later went on to give her caring hand as a nurse in the community. Every patient she took care of was lucky to feel her tender touch and she treated each and every one with dignity and love. Teresa was beyond an amazing person; she had a magnetic personality and was always full of life. She had a unique way of making everyone she met feel special. Because much of her family lived far away, her friends became like family to her. She loved you all so much and cherished the times you shared. Although far away, she was close to and deeply loved by her family abroad. Always near to her heart were her dearest brother Peter, her sisters Helena, Katarina and Vera and all other family members. Teresa's true calling was being Nana. Nothing made her happier than her beautiful granddaughters, Rylan and Brooklyn. She loved them with all her heart and couldn't be more proud of them at every moment. They were the lights of her life and the time they spent with each other were precious. A huge thank you to Grace Hospice. All the staff helped create such happiness for her in her last days. She came to love the staff and them to love her. The family can't thank you enough for the outstanding care and love you showed mom. She will be deeply missed and always remembered by her children, Lawrence, Tony and Sonia (Darren). Her granddaughters Rylan and Brooklyn, her siblings, Peter (Dale), Helena, Katarina and Vera, all her family abroad, her very special friends and everyone who knew her. Teresa would not want us to be sad but rather remember the good times we were able to share with her. She would want us to not remember her sick but energetic and full of life. A beautiful saying that helped her in her last days... The most wasted of all days, is one without laughter . Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at Henderson Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. If flowers grow in heaven, Lord, then pick a bunch for me. Then place them in my mother's arms and tell her they're from me. Tell her that I love and miss her and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile.

  • So I met Teresa when I was about 5 years old. Teresa and her family lived a couple houses down from us on Adamdell cres. My mom and her became really good friends and so did Sonia and I. I have so many great memories of Teresa. She was like a second mom to me growing up. I loved her very much even tho through the years I didn't see her much. Her and Sonia mean so much to me. Teresa was such a kind loving person. And anybody that got to know her would know that. She will be missed dearly, but now she is no longer in any pain. She has left a mark in my heart and I thank her for that. Love you!! Amy xxoo - Posted by: Amy Friederici (Kostynuik) (Friend) on: Jan 30, 2013

  • Lawrence, Tony & Sonia...I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Your Mom was a truly amazing Woman. Such a kind, gentle & caring soul in every way & such a positive spirit. Although I had not seen her in the past few years, she was always in my thoughts. A family member of mine always said that I was lucky...because "I" had the Best God Mother...and she was right. You will be sadly missed. - Posted by: Lucy Wojciechowski-Hart (God Daughter) on: Jan 29, 2013

  • I met Tekla (Teresa) when she was staying at her daughter's home so she could be close to her grandchildren. She had become quite weak and required assistance to climb the stairs, and other activities of daily living. I spent 8 hours a day with her and we talked about her life and mine. She had a great ability to take out of a story the things I left out. Some days I was not sure if it was me taking care of her or her taking care of me, in a sense. She always held her head high and tried not to admit her pain, but as I grew to care for her I could see it. She said I should have been a nurse and I told her I was too old to start, but that I would become a health care aid. I went with her and her daughter when she was taken to Riverview, I had helped her pack and talked with her about her reservations of leaving her grandchildren and needed to see her through to where I knew they could care for her in a manner she deserved. I want her to know that I did take my health care aid certificate and I did it in 2 1/2 months and now work in the community as she did and think of her often. I am also on a waiting list to start nursing. Thank you for being a mentor to me and giving me strength to be the best I can be. Go with God and have peace from your pain Teresa. You are sadly missed! <3 - Posted by: Holly Anne Fox Ellis (Care giver and friend) on: Jan 29, 2013
